I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in litigation against The College Network, or maybe you know someone who has? If so please post the experience. Thank you!!
I can't help but wonder as I read this thread. Awhile ago, I was considering signing up with TCN. I did my research though, on this site and through word of mouth and with many internet searches off this site.
The general feel I got was that people were not happy with the "product". I hadn't heard about how they pursue people like they are mafia or something. In the end, I did not sign up with them. I was a bit rude with their sales people when they kept calling. After three months, they quit.
Come to think of it, I remember the moment I decided not to go with them. The sales person was pressuring me to set up a meeting between her and the educator at my hospital. When I mentioned it to the educator, the reaction was very "Bah, I have no use for them in the hospital."
I could have so easily been fighting them too, but I don't think I would have won.
I just recently been sucked into TCN program. And then my friend told me about all the negative comments written about them. After my research I have found that they are telling you that they are affiliated with Excelsior college when in fact they are not. Excelsior has nothing to do the TCN. I live in Florida and was told by my couselor that I would be able to take my boards here in Florida. Thats a lie. I have found out that I will have to fly to Gorgia and that Florida will not accept my license. I asked my couselor and he assured me that I could take my exam here in Florida no problem but he lied! I have also done research and found in my state it is against the law if it is determined that the contract was signed under false pretense. This is definately the case here. I was told that both I would be receiving a degree in nursing with an affiliated school and that I would be able to take my boards here in Florida. So yes I do have a lawsuit.I would like to know how the other girl is doing with her lawsuit? Have any of you had any luck with one. My next step will be to contact an attorney but I need to stop payment on because stupid me gave them a blank check. I know they will come after me and put me in collection. So what let them I have no money to give!
upsetandtaken,
I alos fell for this scam and live in florida. I agree with all that you are saying. When I spoke with the representative they of course went into the life time garentee use, etc. I explained that the respresentative from their company is falsely advertising their product and that I do believe that is a major issue. If there are others like us in Florida maybe we all need to get together and push the issue in a class act law suit????
i have nothing good to say about this so called college.
my personal opinion is to stay away and sign nothing because once you sign you are in debt and they do not care one ounce about your reason for dropping. you are on the hook for the entire amount of the entire course no matter how much of it you use. i think of it as if i were to be accepted to a state university, and had to drop the state would not charge for classes not taken, only those you completed. not true with this company.
the first course i received was anatomy and had the word "sample" superimposed over the top of every page that appeared to be copied on a poor copy machine. the quality of the material was very poor, blurry and not professional looking. i was accepted to another program and i went with them instead and i am much happier. i am actually learning and not just patted on the back by the so called counselors that i called for help.
becoming an rn is expensive enough without making the mistake of signing with this company. learn from others mistakes and do not get suckered into their program.
this is one man who has learned his lesson, (a very expensive lesson).
if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is...
So sadly I have been sucked into the college network scam. So since most people are focusing on the contract aspect of this I'm wondering if anyone has payed attention to the specifics. First of all the one thing that the reps keep referring to is the cancellation agreement saying that we have three days to cancel. Well actually what it says is "you may cancel this transaction, without any penalty or obligation, within three business days from the above date", No where does it say that you may never ever ever cancel this with appropriate penalties. #1
#2 on the back of the college network INC LPN to BSN purchase agreement the clause titled "customized study materials refund policy" it states, "If I am in my obligations and purchased TCN's CSMs but was not admitted to ISU's College of Nursing, I understand TCN will refund the total amount I have paid for the CSMs provided I show proof of non-admission. The refund will first be applied to any outstanding loan balance with my lender and any remaining monies due will be paid directly to me."
#3 for the LPN/LVN to BSN program they recently changed the curriculum. they sent me a letter saying that in order to complete my degree program I would have to complete 5 more courses. They said they would pay for 2 but i was responsible for the others costing me just over $2,000. Now I'm not a lawyer, I'm an nurse, but i believe they cancelled the contract by altering the terms and conditions by adding those extra courses.
Now if anyone can back me up on this and take this information far enough to actually do something effective PLEASE PLEASE let me know ASAP. you may email me at [email protected] as well...
Thanks,
I really hope we can stop The College Network's scamming.
I'm not a lawyer by any means. However, I know that when I canceled my cell phone contract without any early termination fee they had to waive the fee because they changed the terms of the agreement, but I had to do so within 30 days after receiving the written notification(As required by law) that they had changed the agreement. I would try to send them a notification in writing that since they changed the terms of the agreement the contract is terminated. As well as contacting a lawyer.
Take from that what you want. As I am not a lawyer I am not sure the same law applies to an agreement of this nature. Good luck.

OK, the post was offensive indeed and I immediately thought so after looking at it a day or so later. I wanted to edit it but didn't think I could since I let my premium status go and didn't see a function to do so as a regular member.
I fully admit to and publicly apologize for that.
But in all fairness, I never referred to you personally as an "expert" nor did I make any reference to anyone being "stupid" so the quotations were not appropriate in your message.
Nonetheless, I fully get what you were saying. You were just trying to report what you knew about the subject, same as me, and I shouldn't have jumped on you for it anymore than I should have scrutinized myself for doing the same thing to the best of my knowledge.
My post was really about my misappropriated anger toward organizations like TCN and how companies, creditors, colllection agencies, and some law firms take advantage of regular people who may be ignorant of the law and their rights.
