I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in litigation against The College Network, or maybe you know someone who has? If so please post the experience. Thank you!!
I need your help regarding getting out of the contract with The College Network and especially the City County Credit Union the College Network used to pay for all my nursing courses I haven't studied yet. I don't understand how any organization can charge you money up front like the College Network/City County Credit Union can by just validating a contract. If I choose to go to any college in the United States and choose not to continue my education with any college in the United States, the only time I'm charged is for that semester I quit in. I don't have to pay for 4 years of college ahead of time. There ought to be a law against the College Network/City County Credit Union for selling a college education ahead of time and not being allowed to quit without having to pay for 2 to 4 years of tuition. Please advise me as to how you were able to get out of your contract with the College Network. Thank you.
Again, TCN has nothing to do with "going to college." They are selling a product, their set of study modules, and entering into a contract with them is exactly the same as buying a car, washing machine, home gym, etc., "on time." You sign a contract agreeing to pay the entire amount, and, if you change your mind later on, that's not their problem -- you're still legally obligated to pay the entire amount to which you originally agreed (unless they do something to void the contract, which I'm sure they're v. careful not to do). Legally, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to be sure of what you're agreeing to when you sign the contract, and, once you've signed, the law presumes that you did understand fully what you were signing and holds you to it.
It's a shame that more people aren't careful about differentiating between what they're told verbally by a salesman and what is written in the fine print of a contract, but, legally, TCN isn't doing anything wrong -- any more than a car dealership is when you purchase a car and they set up financing for you.
It would be nice if the OP would come back and let us know what the final resolution came to. Only recall seeing about one or two other cases where the person was successful. There obviously has always been a lesson to be learned when dealing with TCN.
Yes, the OP might have a chance if she has the federal government leaning on TCN on her behalf. :) They may well refund her money simply to avoid "bad blood" with the government. I doubt anyone else is ever going to beat TCN at their game, though ...

Quite simple. You signed a contract to purchase a product - TCN's (apparently pretty useless) study manuals. My wife got roped into this. I wasn't present at the TCN presentation she attended. I found out about it after the fact - and unfortunately after the three-day cancellation period expired. We were stuck paying for study manuals that will never be used.

I was thinking something along those lines. However, having been in the military, I would have been surprised that they would have become involved in civil litigation involving a service member's spouse. Perhaps just the initial contact from a JAG officer was enough for TCN to back off. But we won't know, until the OP updates us.
Please keep me posted on your out come. I to have been scammed and tried unsuccessfully to cxl my contract..I have however stopped payment, but now I will have to face collections. I have recvd several calls from the college network offering there assisatance by paying my Dec bill so that my account will stay current. I refuse to accept anymore help from such scammers. I will greatly appreciate any help. Mahalo from Hawaii
Don't feel like you should have to defend yourself for the school path you choose, what you wanted to do is perfectly understandable.I would very much like to know what these lawyers say. I did not know TCN was affiliated with ISU, but I know Excelsior will tell you to stay away from them.
That said, Excelsior College is very hard, more difficult than if you can go to a regular nursing school. I'm talking about the CPNE. I feel like it is harder than it should be and they even will resort to nit-picking to fail you (depending on the tester you get.) Also, be sure you have strong clinical skills as an LPN. Good luck. Keep us posted. I would love to see these scumbags held accountable.
ISU is not directly affiliated either. If you call their admissions office and nursing department, they will tell you to RUN in the opposite direction!
I was wondering what the final resolution was with TCN.
I ask this because, I signed a contract with them, BUT I cancelled it in within the 3 day cancellation period. I got confirmation from them that it was cancelled afterwards. However, I recently found out after pulling my credit report that they DID NOT cancel my contract. I have a negative account on my credit report for $4000 for study guides I never received.
Anyone else sueing them? BTW, how strong a case would I have if I were to sue since I followed the directions stated in the contract on what to do to cancel.
To Whom should I write to file a complaint? BBB? State Representative?
I am SO utterly frustrated it's not even funny!

If you have confirmation that the contract was canceled in writing from them the first thing you'll want to do is challenge all three of your credit reports.
In all honesty there is not a lot you can do from there, unless they continue to challenge that the debt is real.
People who do their research will know this company is a scam right off the bat.
