Langara September 2020 Intake

Updated:   Published

Hi Langara hopefuls!

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for September 2020 intake because I'm currently ramping up to apply and getting excited!

I'm taking A+P at the moment, and will be taking 3 other prereqs in the fall at TRU. I have a couple of college certs, some uni credits, but no degree yet.

Anyone else out there prepping and getting ansy?

Hey! I'm also a term 1 Student here :))

All of our Term 1 profs allowed laptops and iPads!

In our experience, 1130, 1109, and 1121 give out lecture notes each week. As for 1160 (skills), our instructor doesn't give out lecture notes (there are two instructors for 1160, so the other one may). 1163 (clinical practice) will require a laptop or iPad at the beginning of the term.

As for note taking, 1130, 1109, and 1121 will have lecture slides so just writing additional notes during lectures will suffice. Since our instructor for 1160 doesn't do slides, WRITE EVERYTHING. Pay close attention and write detailed notes. You can clarify and double check with your instructor later on but do take super good notes in class.

This is super helpful, thank you!! When you say they give out lecture notes, are they paper notes or do they also provide a pdf version or something online?

Got accepted this Tuesday with a 3.7 and no degree. Just wondering if anyone knows what the next steps will be (interview, etc..?).

HI,

first, check "my Langara login", you may find

"A criminal record check must be completed before you enter this program. Please complete the Consent for Criminal Record Check form for a Schedule B record search online at https://justice.gov.bc.ca/eCRC/ using Access Code: R7FM5FYPUT. The cost is $28 and can be paid by Visa or MasterCard."

second, from the email:

"The Faculty of Nursing Mandatory Supplemental Information form will give you information about the supplemental program requirements and associated deadlines. We recommend that you start the process of fulfilling these supplemental requirements as soon as possible. Please pay particular attention to the deadlines associated with the Criminal Record Check and the Immunization and Communicable Disease form (to be completed with a doctor/health care professional)."

They're just powerpoints so they're somewhat brief. Sometimes the powerpoint slides available to us will miss a few parts from the powerpoint that the instructors have on screen (it's on purpose) so you would need to fill in those parts during lecture. Doing the readings is important to being prepared for the lecture.

They are posted on our D2L website online and most of them will appear / become available a week before or a day or two before the lecture.

Hey guys, anyone else get accepted?

@Hallinski @tapioca16 hi BSN students!! I was just wondering how things were going with COVID and school? Is langara handling it well? Your profs?! Is clinical still going on? What's different now? Hope everyone is staying safe!

Hi! I’m actually applying for my pre req year at Langara for September 2020. I was just wondering if there was a groupchat for all new nursing students and pre req students? I think it would be a great idea!!

when I took my pre reqs there weren't any group chats including everyone taking pre reqs since there are so many people that take them, however once you settle into your classes I'm sure you'll probably be invited by your classmates to make study group chats.

Hellooooo

We just finished our last final of Term 1 ! Things kept going and the transition from classroom to Zoom hasn't been too rough. With the classes like 1130, 1121, and 1109, the transition has been easy since those three classes are just our profs talking about our lecture slides. With our skills class (1160), the transition has been harder since we don't get to practice the hands-on skills in the Nursing Simulation Lab but we do get to practice on people in our household (since Term 1 is mainly assessments, they're not too invasive so they're possible to do). With 1163 (Our clinical placements), the clinicals have completely stopped but our clinical instructors did fictional case studies. There wasn't any role-playing for 1163 (there was some for 1160 for practicing the skills).

Langara has been giving us updates frequently about changes and the Nursing Department has been very responsive with everything that has been going on.

Langara is doing good in adjusting to the pandemic. All curriculum is moved to online modalities. Professors are supportive and optimistic about the situation. The tail end of clinical this term was cut short, now we are awaiting Term 2 updates!

Hi friends!

Anyone else kinda worried about being able to fulfill the supplemental information requirements (immunization form, first aid, etc.) due to the COVID situation?

Stay safe everyone! ?

I'm currently waitlisted and I'm just wondering if there are ways I can prepare in case I get accepted. are there forms I can fillout? first-aid classes I should be taking? etc.

Heyyy @Samuel, make sure if you’re going to take first aid, it’s the HCP/BLS one. I did first aid training before and found out that it was the wrong one.

Also, like @Hallinski mentioned, try to do speco. I would advised that you do it few weeks before classes since they have expiration dates.

here’s the link:

Other than that, you should be good. When you get accepted, they email you a link where you can find the immunization form and a code for criminal record check. They also give you enough time to complete them.

Hope this helps and you get accepted soon!
