Langara Fall 2017

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi!

It's super early but I wanted to start a thread for those planning to apply to Langara for the Fall 2017 intake!

I am finishing one last prerequisite and will be applying as soon as applications open in November.

Who else is going to apply to this intake?!

So i read the Jan intake thread and people were getting offers with a 3.0 as late as Dec. So, if you don't get an offer in March/April thats not the end of the world. I spoke with an advisor and he said that once you're on the wait list your GPA isn't as important, they look at past experience and previous schooling at that time. I am applying with a 3.30 and a paramedic certificate and he said I have a really good chance (most likely off the wait list). We will see. I am so nervous though. I have applied to VCC and the wait list is four years long they said:eek: seriously, what?!!! Anyway, i have decided that nursing is the goal so i will just keep moving forward until i get there. Hopefully we all hear soon -- So we can breath again.

That is really interesting to hear @CIVS. When did you speak with an advisor? I've applied in previous intakes (Last spring with a 3.4 and last fall with a 3.53) and I did not get off the waitlist... hoping 3rd times a charm?! Haha. I have repeated many courses to try to improve my GPA, so we will see. I did not apply for this last intake because I was retaking a class (tho I wish I did now knowing that the gpa dropped so much!) Langara is my first choice program so I'm really hoping I can get in. VCC's waitlist is insane!

Is that true? I spoke with an advisor as well and was never told about past experience as part of the criteria for admissions. I thought that was only the case for schools like BCIT, VCC, UBC, etc. As far as I know Langara looks strictly at GPA and past degrees and they accept people off the waitlists according to the next highest GPA.

That's what I thought too, jyyw. I was also told they receive about 600+ applications each intake (however, lots are missing requirements or below prerequ min, but lots are also way above, obviously)

I think what CIVS is saying is about past education and not experience, say, bachelors degree, diploma, certificate, probably taken courses too..

Just curious, is anyone on VCC's extremely long waitlist? And when were you told to be expected to get in?

I was told by the registrar that VCC's waitlist is approximately 4 years long; but waitlisting may vary every january intake because some vcc applicants get in other nursing schools before recieving an offer, or some just decline the offer for personal reasons. They also said some applicants recieved an offer who are waitlisted for two years even though 4 years was the lineup when they applied.

Thanks for the info, I am on that waitlist just as a back up. They told me the same information as well. Don't they only have one intake and that's September? I've also heard people had to wait about 2 years to get in.

@vana30 what gpa did you apply to Langara with?

I was told the same thing about the VCC waitlist.

Since when were you on the VCC waitlist? And my gpa is 3.4, I hope that's enough for this years intake.

I have only been on the VCC Waitlist since Oct/16. But I was told by a professor last June that the wait was well over 4 years and not the 2 years that it says on the website. :/ Of course that can fluctuate depending on people dropping off the list/ getting accepted elsewhere or changing career plans.

Yes I am. I put myself on the waitlist in September and they said I would be expected to get in 2019.. super long.
