LAC+USC interview new grad RN

Published

Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you

Omg! Wow that's such a long time ago! What unit r u supposed to be in?

Hi Jillthepill! Hope I can answer some of your questions. After your initial interview, you will receive a letter stating if you passed or not. That letter will take approximately a month. After receiving that letter, you will be placed on an eligibilty list. You can then call around and ask if they are hiring for am RN I. If they have any positions you can interview for, they will let you know. Sometimes they will call you too. I got called for 2 interviews and I called for another interview. Just depends on what they have open at the time. Hearing if you were chosen for the position varies. Just call to check on the status of your interview if you can't wait any longer. I've been hired for Peds and completed the background check already. Just waiting for the "budget" to clear so that I can do my physical and finally start. So far it's been a 6 month process for me... Applied in May, received my letter in July to interview in August, Passed and interviewed in September, hired and did background check in October... Whew! That was long lol.

P.S. I apologize for any spelling errors, I'm doing this on my phone. :)

So once I get on the eligibility list, I just start calling the hospitals to see what's open?

I applied in february, got a response for a civil service interview in july for a september interview, then got placed on the list the end of October. Not sure what I do now.

Got hired onto SICU. Ive been keeping in contact with the nurse manager for the unit and apparantly she doesnt have much answers for me either about my start date. What unit did you get hired onto?

If you're on the eligibility list, then call LAC+USC, Harbor, etc. Just say you are on the list and ask if there's anything you can interview for. Good luck!

Nemski, sorry to hear that. Hope they call all of us to start soon. What unit will you be in? Also, to anyone that has completed their physical, can you tell me the step-by-step process please? For example, I'm going in on Monday. What will I be doing that day and how many times will I have to come back in order for my physical to be completed? Thanks in advance!

That's a wonderful orientation! I'm so excited for you! How many other people are starting in CT-ICU with you?

What unit did your friend get hired onto?

Sorry for the late replies. I've been really tired after orientation even though it's technically only 8 hrs. I found out that didactic is only actually 1 week, so I will be continuing orientation on the floor next week (for my 2nd week) and will be placed on one of the MS floors to start there.

There were only 12 of us new grads; half are temps (eventually to permanent) on MS. But there was a bunch of new grads that had started in Sept, or so I've heard.

My friend is in neuro ICU, she will also start Dec 1.

I wish everyone the best of luck, and will do my best to keep up with the thread and hope to meet you in person as my collegues! :)

BTW if you guys are still waiting, keep your head up. It took me 4 mos, there's not enough people to orient us-- I think that is the deal more than the budget.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekends!!

I heard that some of the units at LAC are 8 hour shifts and I am wondering which units are those. Maybe Med/Surg?

@For those who got hired - did you have to sing 2 year contract with LAC?
