LAC+USC interview new grad RN

Published

Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you

Hi nemzski, congrats and hope you get to start soon. I was cleared by Employee Health today and when I went to Nurse Recruitment, I got the same thing... "It's all about the budget... We'll give you a call... Blah blah blah." Lol it's okay though, she said I would definitely be starting within 6 months. :rotfl:

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekends!!

I heard that some of the units at LAC are 8 hour shifts and I am wondering which units are those. Maybe Med/Surg?

@For those who got hired - did you have to sing 2 year contract with LAC?

Hi daisyrock,

I am begining my training in one of the MS units, and there are some nurses who do an 8hr shift (7-330p), but most do 12. From my understanding the ones who do 8 hrs choose to.

I did not have to sign any contract. Perhaps I am in what they call the "honeymoon" phase of my orienting, but I have absolutely loved my time on the floor so far (but it is only my 4th day doing pt care)... We'll see :)

I think I saw some of you guys in the eCaps class on thurs, but didn't figure out who anyone was. I was the one who asked about holiday pay, if any of you were there :] will perhaps see you again in the luncheon :lol2:

Sorry for the confusion, but when did you guys actually apply for this cohort? I looked back and think it was sometime in September 2011, right? I also thought that LAC+USC was not having a new grad program and was on a hiring freeze. Shows how well I've been trying to track down new grad programs. Any information would be helpful so I can perhaps find out about the next round in advance. Thanks.

Unfortunately, my preceptor on the med-surg floor is doing 8 hr shifts.. I have to follow her schedule but only for a couple of months..

hey everyone!

I have an interview with LAC-USC for Peds soon (already passed the civil service exam/interview) and was wondering if anyone knew how I can prepare for this interview? Is it similar to the civil service interview? Generic nursing questions? Any information will be helpful from those that have already passed their interview for a specific unit and are waiting for a start date or those who have already started. Thanks in advance! :D

Hi and welcome E_star07! I was hired to work for Peds, but like everyone else I am still waiting for a start date.:uhoh3: It is pretty much the same as the civil service exam... basic interview questions. Ex. Tell me about yourself, strengths/weaknesses and why Peds? Think also about some critical situations and what you would do. No two interviews are the same though. They always have new questions, but those are the basic ones they will probably ask. I interviewed with the DON and she was really nice. Good luck and hope we get to work together.

Nurse_Jaydee! Thank you so much! I am a little relieved to know that it is similar to the civil service interview, since I have gone through that before. I will focus on similar questions then. :D I was just afraid that they might throw at you specific case scenarios where you have to read a pt's signs/symptoms and then diagnose what you think they have and what your interventions will be. (I heard some hospitals do that). So, I don't need to worry about any medication calculations, pediatrics disease processes/pathophysiology, and in depth stuff, right? It would be awesome to work with you as well and be new grads together! :D

No calculations. You might have one question where you have to state the necessary interventions like a code for example. Be confident in your answers and I'm sure you'll do great! Good luck, again! Let us know how it goes.

A Happy New Year everyone!!!

Thank your for answering my question, volunteerpioneer and manda!

@Nurse_Jaydee - I hope you'll get your start date soon!

@e_star07 - I just want to say "GOOD LUCK with your interview!".

Hope 2012 will be a great year for all of us:loveya:

Thank you! I am so thankful for such an encouraging forum just for us new grads! ;D I finally interviewed with the assistant DON of Peds (PICU) and I felt like it went okay. She had asked me a lot of questions, but thankfully they were all questions that I had expected for her to ask me (pretty generic questions that were relevant to peds). Afterwards, she asked me if I wanted a tour of the unit, so I had a chance to see the unit and meet the nurses. I wasn't sure if everyone gets a tour of the unit, but either way it was really nice to see what the work environment might be like. Everyone seemed so friendly and nice. I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but I find peace in knowing that it is all in God's hands at this point. Good luck to all of us! :)
