Kind of bummed...My 4.0 is ruined

Published

I've always gotten straight A's in NS....Well, we just finished another quarter and one of my classes I had an 89.5....She gave me the B :zzzzz Ugh, it just ****** me off. Sorry. I had a great thing going. She said she would consider the A, but I know how strict she is. Grrr. :( If only I answered ONE more question right on the final....lol. Oh well. I guess it's time to move on!

ah, nursing school. that's how it goes. you study your a#@ off, get up at the crack of dawn for clinicals, and do countless care plans. you're always the friend who can't go out at night "sorry guys, i have to study." i study 3-4 hours on most nights of the week and i'm pulling a B i think.

we've all been there. you know that you work hard, that's all that matters. and an 89.5 is pretty darn good if you ask me:yeah:

I am sorry! Something like that would have totally ruined my semester and made me :bluecry1:. :hug Remember, 10 years from now the grade won't matter.

Sadly this probably won't make you feel much better but it is our classes mantra for school, "A's are nice but C's get degrees."

Ahhh Nursing School, such wonderful memories. You haven't lived or died til you have gone through nursing school, taken boards, etc.. Trust me, by the time you reach the end, you will be hoping and praying that you get at least a 75% since that is passing. Remember your patients won't give a fig about your GPA, but they will truly remember that you are a wonderful and compassionate nurse. Take care...

Don't beat yourself up about it. Most nursing students would kill for a B.

Hey there GeneralJinjur, nice to see you here again :heartbeat Happy snow day!

Kristen, that stinks about losing the A! In the program I'm in, an A is 93% and higher...which is different from all the pre-reqs, where 90% and up was an A. Blah.

That is how it is here, once you start NS the grade % changes, an A is 94+ and B is 85-93 C is 78-84 so even though they say you have to make a C or higher it is almost a B or higher compared to the non nursing grading scale.

What are you guys talking about??

High school was...

A 95-100

B 90-94

C 85-89

D 80-84

F 0-79

I went to something like 12 different schools by the time I graduated High School all over the country, the grade system varied on where I went to school between.

93-100 A

84-92 B

75-83 C

65-74 D

64 below F

90-100 A

80-89 B

70-79 C

60-69 D

It was such a pain to go from one school with the second system to another school with the first system. I wish their would be one system across the board. For colleges as well, my College here has a flat grading system of 4.0 A

3.0 B

2.0 C

Below 2.0 you fail.

My college in WA had - and + you had to have a 2.5 to pass a class and you could get 3.8, 2.9 in various classes. When I moved here all my grades that transferred in dropped because of this. My 3.8 and 3.9 dropped to 3.0 and so on. I was so ticked off about this. I had to retake a class because of this because my 2.8 went to a 2.0 and dropped me below the nursing pre req level.

Don't beat yourself up; you still did great!

If it helps, I missed the A too; our 'A' is 95+. :p

Best,

Southern

We have the same, and no student in our program...no student...has got an "A" so far in our program in all of the courses.

We have about 44 students.

OP- That one B proves you didn't cheat, think of it that way.

Let me give you some hope.

I recently interviewed with one of the top hospital systems in the country...I had to travel out of state to interview with them.

Point blank, the nurse recruiter said that they did not look at GPA for the purposes of hiring. They said that all a GPA proved is that you were a good test taker...she said that she has personally seen new grads with a high GPA freeze in times of high stress.

She said the only time that it would matter...is if they had two, identically qualified candidates, and may use it as a determining factor, if nothing else made one candidate stand out.

You may want a masters so don't listen to everyone. It's been 8 years since my first degree and I'm having troubles finding a school, so keep it above a 3.5 to 3.7. It does matter! If you are a hard worker, you are probably going to want a masters. Work harder than everyone else.
