Kentucky Board KARE

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi there,

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is in the Kentucky Board of Nursing's KARE program. I thought this would be a good place to share/exchange info and lend some support to one another! :angrybird12:

Thank you so much. I'm trying to get a grasp on all of this as all of it is so new to me. And expensive which makes me really nervous.

No problem! I'm done now, but this forum really helped me a lot with gaining some understanding of the process and seeing other people going through the same thing. Please don't hesitate to ask anything!

Anybody gotten "value out of range" for their SVT results? My most recent test just came back with this and my urine was super light so I kinda figured it might happen. I only had one other dilute and it was 4 years ago right after I started KARE. Anyone had 2 while they were in the program? If so what happened after the 2nd one?

I have not personally. Someone can correct me if they've had a different experience, but I feel like having 2 out of range 4 years apart is pretty good. I guess it may depend on how your case worker decides to handle it, but I don't think it's going to a big deal.

They may ask you to have a nail or hair test done.

It depends on HOW dilute it was.  I had one that was BARELY over the threshold.  I had been increasing water because I was exercising and training for a marathon.  I just told my CM this and that was end of it.  However, if it was super dilute, they have confimation testing they can do.  I have never heard of anyone in the program (with KBN) have to do a hair (or goodness...a nail? Geesh cant imagine) test over a dilute.  However, I am not the expert but am almost at end of my contract.  Hope that helps.  ❤️

Hair or nail test? At KBN? Really?

I was under the impression they only do urine tests. Which is least expensive... do they sometimes do hair or nail?

Oh no. They can do urine, blood, hair or nail test: I know people chosen for all of these. It's not super common, but they def can.

Hi Mscoolmug

really? OK. When I spoke to my CM - plus all the initial paperwork - it was about urine screens. I haven't started screening yet so I am just trying to get the lay of the land... and find a facility close to work!

I definitely don't know it all, so maybe your agreement is different. I'm sure it won't be too big of a deal though! I wouldn't worry too much.

I have the same code (0-722099) on my test requisitions. I give 3 random urine drug screens per month during my 5 year contract. I am 1 year 5 months into my contract and have only had this particular test code required of me. I haven't been able to find out what exactly it tests for either. The only info I can find is that it might be the 'Comprehensive Urine drug panel' that is used for HealthCare Professionals monitoring but haven't been able to match up the code. My Case Manager did tell me when I signed the contract that they test for "everything except nicotine".....

I'm very interested to see if you have found anything and would appreciate it if you could share what you find on here.

Wishing you a wonderful journey in your Recovery!          -J

Curious if you ever found out anything about the O-722099 panel? I got selected for it for the first time and just wondering what it could be?
