Kentucky Board KARE

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi there,

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is in the Kentucky Board of Nursing's KARE program. I thought this would be a good place to share/exchange info and lend some support to one another! :angrybird12:

Y'all my 1 year monitoring is DONE today. My year is actually tomorrow, but I got the beloved "please activate account" message along with an emailed copy of my completion letter. I know it was *only* 1 year, compared to a lot of you with your 5 years, but you can absolutely do it. I know it's been said before but just breathe and take one day at a time. There are jobs who will be willing and lucky to hire you. I was promoted to regional director of education during my first time. Life and your career will go on ??

Does anyone know what the difference in the $70 test is compared to the $50 one. I have been getting selected for the O-722099 panel and I have no idea what they are testing for?

Hey all, so I got selected for testing today (I'm in KARE with the KBON), and the panel it gave was O-789373 + O-788890. I've never had two panels on there. When I look up the 788890, it's on lab corp's website as specimen validity testing. I know they do this with our samples, so maybe they've just started making it a separate code? Wondering if anybody else has gotten this two panel thing? TIA!

Curious if you ever found out what these panels test for? I keep getting an O-722099 I've researched and can't find it anywhere on Google or the labcorp site? I'm 6 months in and it seems to be more frequent that I get selected for that one

I have the same code (0-722099) on my test requisitions. I give 3 random urine drug screens per month during my 5 year contract. I am 1 year 5 months into my contract and have only had this particular test code required of me. I haven't been able to find out what exactly it tests for either. The only info I can find is that it might be the 'Comprehensive Urine drug panel' that is used for HealthCare Professionals monitoring but haven't been able to match up the code. My Case Manager did tell me when I signed the contract that they test for "everything except nicotine".....

I'm very interested to see if you have found anything and would appreciate it if you could share what you find on here.

Wishing you a wonderful journey in your Recovery!          -J

I haven't been able to find any specific description of the code however the last time it popped up it was along with another code for the one test. Usually it's only 1 panel. I want to think it's a specimen validity added panel. At random they test to make sure it is not synthetic. That's what I found out at the lab corp site I go to.

I hope all is going well I wish you successful  recovery.

Yes I would go ahead and ask what happens next. But I think there will be some formal exit interview along with you signing something that says your no longer bound to your KARE contract. You'd like to think it'd be as "formal" as one could imagine but honestly I think they'll say you're done.. and you'll be done. Congrats

Yeah, my finish was very anticlimactic. A phone call from the b**** case manager and an emailed generic form letter followed by a hard copy. Mine made us do a silly 'exit interview.’ Basically a series of canned questions I which we supposed to tell them 'how much we appreciated the program and what we learned from it, blah, blah, blah.” Pretty much, just fishing for positive reviews. I puked up something that ranged from noncommittal to straight up BS. I doubt it was even read. By the end, I was such a thorn in their sides (like 'go ahead, lie to to me one more time, I'll forward this to my lawyer.) that they probably wanted me gone as much as I wanted to be gone.

It got to where I'd call them out on inventing requirements that weren't even in the contract, I'd threaten the lawyer (I actually did have one on the back burner) and they'd back pedal so fast you could feel the wind.

They function on a culture of fear and intimidation, banking correctly that most do not have the money or intestinal fortitude to fight them. What a bunch of creeps (best word I could come up with that wouldn't get censored, LOL)

Anyway, congrats at finishing. Put those clowns behind you and get on with your life.

Does KARE typically use urine screens?

Yes, mostly urine. Mine typically cost about $80 every 2 weeks or so. Sometimes more if they're using a more in depth panel. They are known to do PETH tests which is a blood test checking for alcohol. Those are pricy. I was in monitoring a year and never had one but other people I know have gotten them so be mindful of that cost. Where I am they can be up to $300 but it depends on your lab in your area. I think it's usually about $150 but don't quote me. I never got selected for a weekend to test, and I don't know anyone else who has either. Good luck. I know it seems overwhelming now, but you got this, if for no other reason than you can't let them win. That's how I looked at it LOL

Thank you! Somebody said they do hair tests and those are expensive too. Have you ever had to do a hair test?

No, nothing but urine. It's possible to get pulled for that stuff, but I've only ever seen it done when there is an issue or something else is not conclusive.
