Kentucky Board KARE
CRNA, Im an APRN (not a CRNA) and would love to connect with others in the program who are near Oldham/Jefferson county. Not sure if you are in that area or not. I can give you some input offline that I'd rather not share on this forum (as I am sure there are people monitoring here). Never had that one but just a comment: the prices on these tests are criminal. The actual cost are likely less than $5 from what I have heard (have contacts in lab testing that know pricing).

Kentucky Board KARE
It depends on HOW dilute it was. I had one that was BARELY over the threshold. I had been increasing water because I was exercising and training for a marathon. I just told my CM this and that was end of it. However, if it was super dilute, they have confimation testing they can do. I have never heard of anyone in the program (with KBN) have to do a hair (or goodness...a nail? Geesh cant imagine) test over a dilute. However, I am not the expert but am almost at end of my contract. Hope that helps. ❤️

Exactly! One of the things I first said when I self reported, was that the reason why many healthcare providers hide their addiction is the fear of losing their livelihood (being able to work in our career). It should not be that way. I have a colleague who went through the Pharmacy equivilent to KARE and it was a much different experience (very positive). I am still very new, have been off pain medication over two years (Percocet was my addiction/dependance due to ---SHOCKER --a spinal injury from work as a nurse). I am glad I found this forum to connect. I would love to find others local or semi-local to KY to connect with and share experiences and offer support. ❤️

I have noticed that the Board orders appear to be mostly a template and they just plug a name in. Unfortunately, doesn't appear they really adjust the guidelines, especially in consideration of those in advance practice. I am a NP, and was offered "probation" for 3 years (which would have been discipline on my license, etc) versus KARE. I think KY is one of the few states that makes public the nurses in the monitoring program (so it will always flag for an employer when they confirm license). I would love to connect with other nurses who are in KARE, as there are so few resources for healthcare providers in recovery.

I’m not even sure if I will be given the KARE option, I’m still in limbo with how the board wants to “settle” my case (mean: punish). I would love a support network of peers, and even though I’m in a large city there is nothing I’ve found searching online (also from what I’m told the Board doesn’t know of any either!). Glad I found this group! Hopefully we can direct message each other soon (I just found this board!).

Hello! NP in KY here. I would LOVE to find a peer support group (nurses, healthcare professionals) in the Louisville area. I was referred me to a counselor (i already have one) who wanted to charge me $$ to give me the info to the one he runs... Would love support dealing with the KBN. I admitted my addiction to pain medication to the board and obtained an attorney (which has found to be pretty much a waste of money!). Would love to connect with some others like me! Feeling pretty alone...
