Karen MD started YouTube channel to bash nurses and NP

Published

I was so appalled to stumble upon this channel where an MD bashes nursing profession and makes us sound like dangerous criminals. The channel calls Patient at Risk. What are your thoughts on it

I apologize,  misunderstanding

No problem! I appreciate your background and what you have to bring to the table- no complaints from me ?

? I admit my opinion might be wrong. But I don't think we should give docs the power to criticize us as we are already critical of ourselves. Meanwhile they have their own issues to deal with

Huh. Not sure who this response was addressed to. But honey, pretty sure they teach reading and comprehension somewhere in the 5th grade. Please take your time to reread the thread.

"Honey," what was that about reading comprehension?

I know the two of you have kissed and made up. I just thought your words were  quite ironic, considering.

I appreciate your feedback. Great discussion. Having attended both medschool (granted only for a year, was personal choice to withdraw) , nursing school and NP school I could offer my own vision on the problem. This particular channel is inspired by the doctors who feel threatened by the increasing scope of NPs. Maybe I'm spoiled by the incredibly smart and hard working NPs I get to work alongside with.

The training that doctors go through is incredibly hard and enables them to treat the most complex cases (obviously). I'd say at least 50 percent of the patients we see do not require over qualified care (and being overcharged for it). An NP can EASILY diagnose and treat them. We never had any adverse effects caused by an incompetent NP. Just shows how it can be beneficial for all when doctors and NPs treat each other with respect not bash or downplays each other's role on YouTube channels. This particular channel goes as far as suggesting NPs shouldnt be called providers as it is misleading to the patients. And this is MY problem with THIS particular channel. My friend just had a skin tag removed  by a doc who charged her 3k for it. Really? Even a mediocre trained NP can do it for a fraction of the cost . The more complex cases can be referred to docs.

Is there a problem with the system ... yes. Just like there are many other issues with Healthcare (education, insurance....). But this is not what this discussion is all about.

If (like you mentioned in your response) it's not up to them to provide the support then it's not up to them to criticize all the NPs out there.

A PA missed something the radiologist later caught on an X-ray when I was in the service.

By then it was too late. I nearly lost my arm and will be in horrific pain the rest of my life. I was in my twenties and it destroyed my life. I'm lucky I didn't kill myself from the pain of my nerves dying and the subsequent CRPS

Everything is great until the unicorn patient walks in, then mid levels kill or maim people because they cannot be expected to reasonably catch those rare cases that require an intimate understanding of every aspect of the human body down to the level of minutia.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Oh do I so get that!  I listen to our NP bash Nursing at most every treatment team meeting!  Gets better!  When the NP was being investigated for Bullying her MD had to cover!   Oh boy did she resent that!  I do declare the.most dirty look I ever got!! ?

maybe because I was the RN that had enough of it and submitted a code of conduct on the NP.   Better still!  the NP came back saying "that's just the way I am". I soon got an adverse action for removal. Fought it and cleared completely!! But they didn't stop!! Both still there! And she still bashes and retaliates!  Not kidding I caught the NP retaliating using the patient record!  Really.  !!   Just that VA?  Sincerely hope so!!

Thanks. On a good note, it makes me a better nurse, and I never would have been able to have the beautiful family I have without the medical retirement from the military and decade I spent recovering. Silver lining!!

MD's miss things on X-rays also. The Covid epidemic exposed hiw many whacko and/or greedy Md's live amongst us. Having said that, some, if not most, of our NP programs are completely open to criticism for low standards.  That is a really simple fact.  These "school" are hurting patients as well as the profession. We are doing an awful job of guarding the henhouse.  Some NP's are expertly trained  but ALL should have to conform to the standards of the best.
