With a around the clock feeding tube do you actually rinse the bag out?
I thought you changed the bag.
The answer is rinse the bag.

Hmmm...that's interesting. I would think you would change the bag as well.

I concur....change the bag, every 24 hours...is there anyone at Kaplan that you could ask about that? Pretty apparent error, I would say.

I've been wondering if Kaplan steered me wrong. Will know in 48 hours!!!
I hope not in more than just a couple of questions!!! No review system is perfect...
Let us know what you find out!!!!

Not one of their review topics was on my exam (76 questions then had my head chopped off). Kaplan likes to drive a point home. Their qbank and question trainers seemed to ask the same topics over and over again to the point of memorizing, and hopefully that knowledge was useful to me this AM. Or else I am screwed. (case in point. they LOVE to talk about traction, Buck's and post op hip replacement, DM and insulin therapy, etc...Did any of these show on my exam? Not a one!)
Well of course, not....that would be to sane and logical, to actually test people on what they know, instead of some obscure drug or trick question...let's see how many new graduates we can drive insane!! OK? Yea, that seems like a valid and empowering way to send our new nurses into the work force...
You have passed exams and clinicals for years, probably half of the people who started nursing school with you dropped out.... now getting your degree should be the real accomplishment.... how horrid is it that you walk out of that test feeling you learned nothing in years of study and preparation? The NCLEX should test a nurses competencies, certainly and even her critical thinking skills, but you should walk out of there feeling good about the test and being empowered by it...not wanting to jump off the bridge....or whatever sense of anxiety and angst you are feeling right now....

I just came across this Q on the Q Trainer and been wondering about this one too. The answer says rinse the bag and change the formula every 4 hours because there's an increased growth of organisms after 4 hours.
I'm taking a wild stab in the dark here, but is this a special recyclable bag that I haven't seen? Granted I'm not currently in the field and only have clinicals and my one externship to reference, but am I being that naive???:monkeydance:

Depending on what the stem of the question is. In a hopsital setting you change the bag every four hours for certain types of formula. In a home setting in order to preserve the number of bags used, if the bag itself is good for 34, then rinse the bag every four. In the hospital it is changed every four because it reduces the bacterial growth.
On a side note we have new bags from formula that are good for 24 hours but these are for 24 hour continuous infusions.
