Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

I took the TEAS test Friday and it was not as bad as I thought, I passed!!!! I didn't make the score I wanted so I'm going to retake it again to try to get a higher score. My advisor advised me to go ahead and start the enrollment process and get my paperwork together since we have until Dec 1st, and then add the better score once I've taken it in Nov. Does anyone have the information on all that I may need? And has anyone got accepted into the program with a C+ on the TEAS test? I was told that they factor in a lot of other things besides your score on the TEAS test is that true? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just so nervous and exicted at the same time:eek:

Good job april20. I am studying for the TEAS test and I am so nervous. Math is not my weakest subject. I not dumb or anything but.. it's just not my fave. I'm trying to get in before dec 1 too! excited but nervous. Well, I haven't even took the wonderlic yet.. I have to complete that in order to start this whole process.. any words of encouragment?? The wonderlic is crazzzyyy!! is it a multiple choice?? do you need to show the formulas? etc... AHHHH... kinda stressing waytoo much over here.. i appreciate your time. sorry for the rant!

Thank you so much!!

The wonderlic is the SLE correct? if so, just answer all the question your positive you know and focus on at least getting 25 correct. You need at least 24 to get into the ADN program. Study as much as you can for the TEAS, try to pass it the first time so if you have to take it a second or third time you wont be under as much pressure. i passed the first time and with the score i have my advisor told me I could possibly get in but try one more time because a 81% or higher gives you that much more of a better chance....Good Luck!

Hello... I'm trying to get into Kaplan ASN program for the upcoming january term.

For those of you who are already in the program, I want to ask you.. what is the competitive TEAS score I need to get into the program? I scored 87.5, and I have a BS from another university. I got 28 on SLE test. But, I don't have any medical experiences. Do you think I have good chance getting in? What's one thing that admission committee looks at the most when choosing the students? Thank you in advance for your help~

HELLO,

IM NOT IN THE PROGRAM YET, I AM TRYING TO GET IN FOR THE JANUARY CLASS, PASSED THE WONDERLIC AND IM TAKING MY TEAS SOON.. BUT FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, YOU NEED 6 MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE TO BE ACCEPTED. I GRADUATED FROM THE PCAT PROGRAM BECAUSE WHEN I FIRST WENT A FEW YEARS AGO THEY SAID IF I COMPLETE THAT PROGRAM THEN THAT WOULD COUNT AS MY EXPERIENCE FOR THE NURSING PROGRAM. BUT WHO KNOWS, YOUR BEST BET WOULD BE TO JUST GO TALK TO AN ADMISSIONS COUNCELOR!:nurse:

Did anyone else apply for January term? I wish we could keep in touch and

keep each other updated on current issues.

Does anyone know if there's advantage for applying early?

My advisor said I could apply early if I wanted to, so I turned in all my transcripts and

completed enrolling process(signing initials on bunch of papers).

I just hope this doesn't work against me. I'm so desperate about getting in.

I got in the program last september. The SLE (wonderlic) test u must score 24 or better. it consists of fast thinking math and vocab. If you want to get in the program aim an 80% or higher on the TEAS. You only get 2 chances at kaplan and 3 at other places. Try to get it on your first try. If you were in the PCAT i believe you can apply, i did the NATP program and worked for 6 months. They included my 2 months at kaplan as experience. If you guys score high on the teas and wonderlic but do not have any medical experience then your chances are really low. I actually dont think the DON will look at your application. If you are a kaplan graduate then your chances are much higher too. (remember its a profit school). if you get a 79.4% on your teas you might get in but you must be very lucky with how many drop out or score higher. but if u got that score take it again and try to get 80 or higher. 78% and below are almost impossible. If you do not get in and you get a 78-81% on your teas. Call kaplan and ask the DON if you got in as an alternate because sometimes they don't let you know.

so far the program is really great. i am learning a lot, but dont think its going to be easy through out. you have to study all the time. but everyone who gets in usually try to work together so everyone would do well.i love my classmates bcuz they are really supportive as well i am to them. After this application process, you should NOT compete with your fellow classmates, just try to score high and everybody will help.

One of my classmates has 7-8 classes in one semester. but one of my classmates has only 2 classes (transfered classes). I have 5 and like all colleges, the tests may come back to back but if you work hard it shouldn't be a problem.

If you got 85% percent or higher on your teas and 24 on SLE and have medical experience, you're pretty much in. Want to prepare? Start memorizing 206 bones in our body for anatomy. :)

I applied for the Jan semester also, Im going in to retake my TEAS test to get a higher score even though I passed the first try. I graduated from Kaplan and I just found out that some of my college credits will be able to be transfered! A classmate of mine from Kaplan made it in the Sept class and she passed the TEAS test with a 77% the first try, she also graduated from Kaplan and had some college credits transfered. I believe if you have so many points they factor in everything for the upcoming class. Good luck to you all hopefully we'll meet Jan 18th!!!

I heard that Bachelors degree can replace medical experience.

Is it better to have med experience or Bachelors degree?

I was hoping that having a Bachelors degree would help me get into the program..

Hello!!! I too am trying to get in for the January term. I completed everything by November 1st for early acceptance and am now waiting for that very important call...eek!!! I should know by the 15th. Everyone else has to have everything completed by the 1st of dec. Good luck to you all. I got a 26 on the sle and 82.4 on the TEAS...i'll let you know if I got in. Anyone else an LVN???

OK... so did you submit cpr certificate and drug test results too?

Do we need to turn those in even before we find out if we get accepted or not?

I just want to make sure...

You dont do the drug test or submit CPR certificate until after u've gotten accepted, that goes for the Background check as well.

B217 I don't know who your rep was but you absolutely have to do the background screen and drug test prior to admission. That is one if the criteria they use in acceptance. Also I've never heard of their early acceptance period. I'm currently in the program and graduate in Sept 2011.
