Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

 How long is the step-up from LVN to RN at Kaplan? I spoke to a rep that said 22 months. There's no way...

kcw100 they test for the main drugs that medical employers and schools do not want. If you are worried that your sleeping pills are going to affect your drug results, contact your doctor that prescribed you the pills and ask him/her if the drugs will affect a drug urine test. If still, every drug has a decay rate. Maybe wait at least 48 hours after u taken the drug. DO NOT DRINK WATER AND/OR POPPYSEED before your drug test!

CAUTION: If you fail the drug test, you may not apply ever again, or after a year. I forgot what the rule is.

Hello everyone! Im studying for this darn teas test!! Ive been studing for the math part because usually math is my weakest subject. Hello everyone! I currently just finished all the enrollment requirements. I passed the SLE with a 25 or 26, passed the TEAS with an 80.6, and I have more than 1 year medical experience working as CNA. I also am a Kaplan alumni, who finished PCAT. I just took the background and drug test yesterday, and I called today and was notified to just wait for the acceptance letter or call.

I would like to know how long did you guys have to wait for the acceptance and what are my chances of getting accepted? I'm trying to start on January 18 as well. They also told me they extended the deadline from December 1st to Decemeber 13, for those who would like to know.

it seems your chances of getting accepted is HIGH. One of my classmates graduated from the PCAT program and applied RIGHT AWAY to the ADN program and got accepted. The director of nurses give MAJOR PRIORITY to kaplan alumni and your TEAS score is higher then an 80, you will definitely get in.

Ill be seeing you in January GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hello all!

Right now I am attending West Coast University, Ontario campus. I have been attending West Coast's BSN program since February of this year and am almost done with my pre-reqs, just a term away from the nursing program. Over the time that I have been here, WCU has become less and less credible to me because of the way they run their school and academics. The terms are 9-weeks each, very fast pace. I feel that when I enter the nursing program, I will not benefit in the long run when in the field by forcing 3 nursing courses a term down my throat over a small amount of time. Also, i do not like the way the nursing course accumulates the HESI, in which your advancement to the next nursing course depends solely on passing that exam, even if you pass the course. On top of that, as most of you are well aware of, the tuition is ridiculous and i am not looking forward to having that debt on my hands after graduation. Lastly, my living situation here in Ontario is not the best right now, and finance is becoming a problem. I am originally from San Diego and considering transferring to Kaplan's ADN program. I have talked to the nursing admissions rep and he said that my credits and my loan will both transfer. I have very little medical experience (just past care-giving for my late uncle last year) and only a high school diploma. The reason for me going the vocational route is for me to get into the field asap to start helping my family and the debts we have. If I do attain my ADN and RN license through Kaplan, I am planning to go back to school, while in the field, and attain my BSN then. One thing i am also skeptical about is getting hired as a new grad RN with only an Associates. Is this a good route to take, considering my situation? Any info about the school and personal opinions would be very helpful. I've found this thread to be very helpful and detailed. Thank you in advanced.

haha how funny i just came from West Coast University in the Anaheim campus

I was in the middle of my nursing program taking med surg 2 and leadership and after taking those i decided to transfer out. I couldn't stand the 9 weeks of endless pressure and non-sleep and the HESI DID make you or break you. I was lucky though, when getting accepted into Kaplan, that my fundamentals and pharmacology credit and now im 1 semester ahead of the people i got accepted with. Unfortunately my loan did not transfer over and so i had to take out another loan just to pay for this school. After finishing Kaplan, Ill be $100,000+ debt. My teachers were telling me it really depends on the hospital who they're looking for. My mom's hospital, which is a private hospital, is only letting new grads with BSN's work there while other hospitals, mostly public, are hiring new grads with an ADN or BSN. One thing is for sure, if you want to transfer out and come to Kaplan you MUST have some medical experience (clinicals do NOT count) or a bachelors degree in another field. I think i made the right decision coming to Kaplan after West Coast. My friends are telling me that they're so frustrated with HESI and the professors they're going to break.

So really think about your desciion and let me know where you'll stand

I wonder if they extended the deadline because there were not enough applicants. I am so stressed out because I have not gotten a call yet even though I submitted all my paperwork super early. I called today and was told by my enrollment counselor by friday, which means Im gonna be calling Friday evening:). Im so nervous, has anyone got info on why they extended the deadline? if not do my reasoning sound plausible?

Does anyone know if they will accept transfer credit from Kaplan University in Florida. I have completed All pre reqs plus Fundamentals, Pharm, Human Disease, Med/Surg I and Med/Surg II and have a bachelors degree from CA. Can someone please send me an email address or contact number for the nursing dept. I do not want to have to go through the sales dept. Thank you!

Did you guys have to get HIPPA certificate before starting ADN program in Kaplan? I was looking through the list that has things to be completed before entering the ADN program, and HIPPA certificate is listed as one of them.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

just wondering who got accepted into the january semester?

Hi,

I have been reading through a bunch of forums and can't seem to find someone in my exact situation. I am a paramedic, 8 years, looking for a career change. I am moving to San Diego and interested in Kaplan's ADN program. I will have to take all of the Pre-req's as it has been 10 years since I took them after high school. Anyone know if I can apply for the ADN program and take the pre-req's at the same time and/or before and still be admitted into their program. Also, any idea how long that would take me? I will not be working so my schedule is flexible. Are there tests that I need to take prior to applying? Thanks.
