  1. Wow, sounds like you are describing my son a year ago. It was clear to me that he had ADHD, but it never affected him as much as it did in 3rd grade. His ADHD was severe in 3rd grade. He would stop doing his work. He would just write anything on the paper to turn it in, then put his head down or draw while at school. The teachers thought that he didn't understand the work, but I knew he did because he would do the work at home if I sat next to him and forced him to do it. However, he would fix the computers in his class room when they were broken and he was very advanced for his age. I had to spend 5 hours a day to help him with his homework so that he would not fail. I thought about putting him in private school, but he completely had no motivation at all. I thought I would never put him on medication. I put him on herbs that helped some and took him to a psychologist that also suffers from ADHD and that was a big blessing because after talking to him and doing lots of research about ADHD meds such as concerta I realize how crucial it was for him to be put on meds. I was afraid that he would be way behind in school this year, but he is actually doing very well and has even gotten a few A's; he's even much happier and says the medication really helps him to focus on doing his work. Also kids should have a limit of 2 hours of electronics per day; especially a kid with ADHD and should't have the electronics in their room. My son used to sneak on the electronic at night because he was addicted to fortnite, which would make his ADHD way worse.
  2. Hello, Did you ever find any hospitals that will provide this type of coverage?
  3. It is going well. I am currently in pharmacology and have one more class to go. I really enjoyed the program, but am happy to be almost done.
  4. I am not really sure about their salary, but I worked there seasonal and got paid way more than any other hospital in Florida. The new neuro unit is very nice, brand new, single rooms. It is definately in it's growing stages as the unit just opened up, the charge nurses on that floor are very nice and helpful, I would say that the doctors that I've seen so far seem a little bit more friendlier than on the other floors. If you like Neuro than I would say that you should definately give it a chance because the unit is nice and new, which means they are not stuck in their ways, it's a beautiful unit, I liked the patient population on that unit, coworker were nice and friendly, they also pay well and offer a generous sign on bonus.
  5. Yes, I rolled over my application from last semester.
  6. Have anyone gone to thus school? I am starting this semester.
  7. To OP, I believe the doc decided to retaliate because you stated you paged him several times and he did not return any of your calls. Charting is supposed to be nondefensive and objective. I usually state the time the MD was paged, the name, and awaiting a return call. I do this each time I call so that there is a time line. I also state the name of the supervisor that was notified as well as night nurse notified to f/u. We should not throw anyone under the bus in our charting, but we need to chart in a way to protect us. For him to respond by defending himself in the note is very unprofessional. I would write an incident report and notify your supervisor as well. If he was the MD on-call then he has to answer the number listed in the on-call sheet. Telling the nurses to page him on his cell phone is not acceptable unless it is on the on-call sheet.
  8. I didn't make it either and will rollover as well. What specialty did you apply to?
  9. I agree. When I called they said we will here back at the end of this month or beginning of next.
  10. Hi Knevans1, I am applying to the dual role RN to MSN for associate/diploma RN’s with a BS/BA degree in a non-nursing discipline. My sister is applying as well to the dual role for BSN-MSN. I am guessing the tread is for anyone applying to the MSN-FNP program. Welcome :)
  11. Muff81, we applied to the dual role MNP program. Which one did you apply to?
  12. Hello all, my sister and I also applied to the program for Spring 2015 and haven't received a confirmation letter/email either.
  13. There is a union but it is not the same as in California or NY. In California there are mandated nurse to patient ratios in all hospitals, mandated time and a half after 8hrs and double time after 12, paid holiday, vacation, and sick leave, differential for nights and weekend, a nurse cannot be interrupted on his/her lunch break or you get and extra 30mins and and extra hour pay.
  14. Hi lazz1, I am glad to here you are really liking Holy Cross. I agree that it will be a culture shock coming from NY and working here in Florida. I am originally from CA and lived in NY and after being here for six years I feel like I finally found a comparable hospital. Ladyt03, I was hired at both Cleveland Clinic and Holy cross and I feel that you can't go wrong with either. Holy cross is the only magnet facility in Broward county, but Cleveland Clinic is applying for Magnet status as well and I don't see why they wouldn't get approved. Cleveland Clinic is a well known teaching hospital associated with the Cleveland Clinic brand in Ohio, which is always in the top 4 of hospitals in the U.S. At Cleveland Clinic the doctors are treated the same as any other employee and are on a salary just like the nurses(they are not on contacts) and they go through yearly evaluations as well. There is no financial incentive for doctors to come here; they come because they know and love the Cleveland Clinic Brand. I love that they are very modern and innovated. Mostly everything you do there is modern and convenient. For example, you rarely have to call the doctor, we contact the residents by sending a text via a computer. They will respond to you via phone within minutes or come right out to see the patient. They put in all there own orders as well. I would recommend you apply before coming down because as you may already know, it's very difficult to find a job as a new grad as well as an experienced nurse. Good luck to you!
