  1. I checked the status of my application on the website and it says applicant review...I don't know whether that is a good thing or a bad thing and I haven't received any news or email regarding an interview. Hoping I still get something from them! Any other new updates??
  2. I also got this pop up this am! I got shut off at like 120 so I was sure i had definitely bombed it!! Here's to hoping that this is legit and we all passed!!!
  3. Start dates or those info sessions they have before you apply? Info sessions are I think weekly. There are three start dates a year. Around the 20th of Jan, the 15th or so of May and then after Labor day in September. I am currently in the program and graduate this Sept so feel free to ask any other questions!
  4. Nope, no questions since I'm already in the program :) and don't need to worry about it. I just wanted to make sure everyone one here was getting correct information on the admission process.
  5. Yeah I would definitely double check with your rep because as recently as this past Septembers term I know of someone who was not accepted due to her urine being too dilute in the drug test results and obviously her tests were done prior to acceptance.
  6. B217 I don't know who your rep was but you absolutely have to do the background screen and drug test prior to admission. That is one if the criteria they use in acceptance. Also I've never heard of their early acceptance period. I'm currently in the program and graduate in Sept 2011.
  7. An LVN is a vocational program not a degree program, so an LVN program at any school would not have credits which you can use to obtain a degree in the future. From what I've heard it is very difficult to find jobs as an LVN. My friend got her LVN license in Aug of last year and still has not found a job. Most hospitals also don't hire LVNs because of their scope of practice is limited. On the other hand, most LTC facilities do use LVNs as med nurses so you would likely work in a facility like that.
  8. Honestly, above all, Kaplan is a for-profit school and a lot of the admissions reps are skeezy and will tell you anything. The admissions dept really has no say on acceptance into the program since selection is done by the director of nursing, they can only inform you on the trend of those who were actually accepted. I don't know how much weight medical experience, a bachelors, or being an alumni is placed on the admissions process, but I'm sure that having either would greatly help your chances since your teas score would be the only thing they would be able to base your possible acceptance on. I'm guessing you'd have to blow the teas out of the water to be considered without any of the other stuff since Kaplan is becoming a very popular option to get a nursing degree. I was accepted on my first try, but I did shell out 4k to do their CNA program ( Crazy I know, but since my husband is in the miltary I was able to get aid to pay for it). I haven't worked as a CNA and have no medical experience whatsoever. I also have a few classmates with degrees in other fields and were accepted with absolutely medical experience as well. I am very happy with my decision to attend kaplan. Once you get in and past admissions it's a whole different world. Kaplans board pass rate is up to 96% and of the teachers I've encountered so far I can definitely tell why. They definitely strive to give you the right knowledge to pass boards and the experience to be a good nurse in the real world.
  9. The RN program is only offered at the San Diego campus. I'm currently in my second semester there. The admissions process is based on a point system so you do not necessarily need 6 months medical experience, but the admissions reps will definitely tell you that or try to make you take some other medical class they offer (PCAT, MA, or CNA) since being an alumni there gives you points as well. Having a bachelors in another field also helps you get in (no medical experience required) and they also look at your teas score (must be in the mid-high 80s).
  10. Maybe look for a flexible daycare center in someones home. This is my first semester so my schedule isn't too crazy and I guess I'm lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) to have my clinical on a Saturday in the evening so my husband is able to care for our nine month old daughter. Next semester is going to be hell though, as my schedule is going to be totally random and clinicals will start at 6am, but the expectation of us is to be there at 5:45am and I live about 30 min from most of our clinical sites. To top it off my husband is in the military, and his next duty station is an hour and a half away and he has to be at work by 7am fighting traffic and all! I may be dropping my daughter off at 5am maybe earlier! We have no family in the area to help whatsoever. Luckily my provider is AWESOME! She is more than willing to take her that early...she told me not to expect anything pretty answering the door though! She also told me if there were any last minute changes, just make sure to at least text her when I was around the corner to make sure she could throw some decent clothes on! Lol. Good luck to you though, hope you find a provider or someone who will be flexible with your schedule.
  11. Actually, let me clarify my bit on the pre-reqs. There are actually no pre-reqs to get into Kaplans nursing program. The classes I listed are required to go on to your core nursing classes. If you haven't taken any pre-reqs you can take them there. You only need a high TEAS score( they say above 80 is competitive) and either medical experience, a degree, or be an alumni of Kaplan to be eligible to apply.
  12. They do collect $20 when they enroll you but it is refundable if you are not accepted. The pre-reqs are English Composition, Sociology, Psych, College Algebra, Anatomy and Physiology. If you've taken a higher Math or Psych or anything they may credit you for those instead. Having your CNA license does not lower thr cost of your tuition but it can definitely improve your chances of being accepted especially if you've worked as a CNA already. The cost does include books, equipment, uniforms, and insurance. The next cohort starts in May but unfortunately I don't know the application deadline. If you're interested you might want to inquire soon cuz you'll also need to take the TEAS and Kaplan only offers it twice a month or you can take it at SDSU for almost double the price. I started Kaplan just last week and am happy with my decision. It is an accelerated program so you do have to be extremely dedicated and know that this is truly what you want! Good luck to you!
  13. Just a clarification to liberty bells post...spouses are not entitled to BAH while the service member is still on active duty. Don't want to get anyone's hopes up with that one.
  14. Ohlone college is also lottery
  15. As far as vocational schools offering an RN program, look up Unitek in Fremont. I've been hearing a lot about it recently and I looked and it us recognized by the CA BRN. They have a 2 step ADN Program where it looks like they make you go through their LVN Program first, which seems kinda shady but if you're interested in getting your RN quick you gotta do what you gotta do right? Also, I don't know if you know but City College in SF is lottery not waitlist so you might wanna check them out.
