Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

]ricerocket - Nah I haven't. I'm from the Orange County area but I'm doing my research with private/vocational schools that offers an RN program. I may really consider moving down to San Diego for a few years if everything doesn't work out for me tho.

Quick question: Say if you do well in the Wonderlic & TEAS, your chances of getting in is still unlikely without any medical experience?

im not really sure how it works when they're looking at medical experience. i think they even consider volunteering, as long as there some kind of patient contact. ( don't quote me on that...) i think they just want you to have some kind of medical experience; atleast 6 months i think? but if you were a student there (or a cna, lvn, etc), i think you would have greater odds. i cant remember. i didnt do too well on my sle. but i did pretty good on the teas. i think they look more at your teas score if anything, then your work experience, your education background etc all count in. i think the next session is may 2010; and u can take your teas as many times as you want. you also need to have a clean background. one of the clinical site that they have will only accept students with a clean background...

I got accepted without prior medical experience but, I have abachelor's degree. My counselor said if u have a bachelor's or higher, they will waive the med experience requirement.

Hi everybody! New here...I too applied for the January 2010 class! I'm still awaiting a phone call! Congrats to all who got accepted already :yeah:

yeah, im also waiting for a call to see if im in or not.

I am also waiting as well. Do they still call if you don't get accepted or is it just if you do get accepted?

Hi ricerocket and anyone else who applied to the Jan 2010 ADN Program at Kaplan! I just found out today that I was accepted to the program! Now I've got to get my physical and BLS certification done before orientation so I don't lose my spot to an alternate! Has anyone else found out yet?

If you don't mind me asking... what did you make on the TEAS and did you have medical experience?

I didn't do too wonderful on the TEAS, I got an 83%. I blame it on my then 4 month old who only let me get in about 30 minutes of studying in a span of about 4 days! I didn't have any medical experience but I am a Kaplan alumni, I took their CNA class last Nov.

I wish you guys the best of luck, hope you guys get the acceptance call soon!

I got an 81% on the teas, with a 75% on the math portion and 66% on the math. They look at the math and Science the most. They also look at your educational background and medical/ work experience. Basically they are looking for people they believe can handle the heavy math and science load in an accelerated format.

from what my advisor told me when i turned in my application is that they will call you and let you know if you are accepted or not. they would start calling from the 7th to the 15th. i got an 87 on my teas. i scored 85 on math and pretty high on science. i dont remember the score. i also have over 3 years medical background working in a hospital and long term care facility. i dont have a bachelors but i have my associates. how did you do on your test?

Have you tried to call your counselor and ask? I'm sure they'd know by now.
