Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

I think your plan of action would have to depend upon what the director of admissions has to say, however... it should be YOUR responsibility to have made sure the form got faxed for your background check, not your counselor's, which is what they will most likely tell you. That definitely isn't right if he forgot to do it for you, but I think you should talk to the director then go from there. I'm so sorry all this is happening, totally crappy!!! Maybe they can guarantee you a spot for the next rotation. Good Luck.

thanks i hope so too. yes it was my responsibility. but when i turned everything in, he said dont worry about it, i;ll fax it for you. so of course i said ok, since they do have fax machines there. then when i went in to turn my letter which was liek the last week before deadline. thats when he didnt even have my folder and made me a folder with all my paperwork. and i asked if he faxed it..and he said oh yeah, ill get to it. so i thought ok. thats fine. but now that really bothers me. but you are right though, they would probably use that against me. but that sucks. i mean i dont see any other reasons why i cant get accepted. my background results are clean, the drug test clean. so i was very excited thinking ok i got everythign done. i even brougght in my checkup and shot records but he said they didnt need that yet..so i was very well prepared..im disappointed.. :( i;ll try calling again..but whats done is done. i dont think they can do anythign about it now..

Yeah, I totally understand. That's really a let down, and not fair that he said he would do something for you and just didn't. That's really crappy of him. :( I think you should definitely complain, because that is not right. If he couldn't do it, he should have let you know. I'm sure you'd have found a fax machine elsewhere.

i know.im disappointed..but i cant for sure assume thats the reason, but im really thinking it is. even a couple of the staff that saw my paper work said yea i would have no problem. so i was just excited and confident that i was in..i guess in the back of my mind, i kinda thought there might be a chance he could have forgettin so i later faxed it..but it was like a week after the deadline..i printed out the form and signed everything and faxed it in...the holidays were coming so everything was just kinda crazy u know... but im sad now.. i should have just done it..then if i didnt get accepted..there could be other reasons..but i duno what they can be?.. my gpa for my associates was pretty good too.. i had a 3.5 gpa. so i dont know.. i tried so hard and come so far to just give up now you know.but may is a long time..i was really pushing for this jan...

I have about 8 months of medical experience as a cna & home health aide...and i got a 81.2% on the teas! I hope its good enough. Sorry to hear about that rice rocket :crying2: You can always try again for the May class! Don't give up!

Ok, I just got my acceptance letter and I am thinking that your background check might not have affected your admission because on my letter one of the things I need to complete before January 20th is the background check. I already did it, but it's a general letter that has the list of things to be done, like the CPR, Immunizations, Background, drug test, etc... I already did all of those things but the immunizations, and the deadline for those is all Jan 20. I think it would be a good idea to call the director and find out why in that case. Maybe the background check wasn't the thing?

hmm i duno? i have all those turned in including my cpr. only thing was that my advisor told me to holdon to the immun till orientation. and he said to also bring the cpr again,, but he made copies.. so i dont know. could be something im not seeing, but seems like everything is completed..

Oh ok. Let us know when you find out! and I will do the same!

ok i finally talked to another advisor who's working with my advisor. and she explained to me..im an alternate??? and what had happened was that they took the wrong teas score. they took my first one??? of all things. and my score was not good at all for that one. but she said i was an alternate and that i should come in for the orientation adn that i should have gotten a letter.. the only letter i got a denial letter..:(.. well see... im wondering what my chances are of getting in as an alternate..this sucks....if they were gonna use the first score, i woudnt waste time and energy studing for the second one??? hmm what can i do now..its done ... i just pray that im able to make it in now.

I bet someone will drop out. Sometimes people think they will pass background, and they don't or they decide that it is too much commitment once they get to orientation. I'm sure someone will drop and you'll be able to get in! :yeah:

oh no! they took the wrong one! what a big mistake! how did you do on your first one? Dont get discouraged, I was informed that all the alternates get in anyways. :wink2:

you think so? they said they were picking 10 alternates. i was number 4 on the list. she told me to go for the orientation anways and that i should have gotten that letter. i think the main reason people might not continue is finanicial. i dont think i'll be able to attend either if i cant get a loan or financial aid...so i guess we'll see. but she was very nice and very informative. she told me to call her again tomorrow so she can look over everything else. she said they also need my official transcript which i turned in already also! oh - i got a 76 on the teas and everyone who passed the teas were taken into the room to fill out the enrollment and whats what i did. so the lady enterred that score for my teas score. of course i wasnt satisfied with that one and i took it again and got higher scores. the sad part is that, on the last day when i went to turn everything in, i asked the advisor to print out the high score and use that one. and also give me a copy so i can keep. so i dont understand why they didn;t take it. im going to be very upset if i dont get in, even as an alternate because that's not right. i shouldn't have to be an alternate because someone entered the wrong information. how would u handle this?. waiting until May would be way to long. i been waiting for jan for some time now already. and being as hard as it is to get in, do you think people would actualy want to drop out? ... did you get your letter yet? or find out any information? i think you have a good chance of getting in. im put as an alternate with a score of 76..and u also have medical experience. so i think u have a good chance. i dont see any other reasons...
