just took the first step to enrolling in Excelsior ADN program

Published

I recently applied to Excelsior College for the ADN program. They called today to let me know that my LPN license has been verified and accepted. I'm so excited to move forward! I've been contemplating on going back to school for years. A little background about myself. LPN of 8 yrs. Mostly LTC experience. I have two kids. 10yr old and 8 month old. Work only weekends. This program seems perfect for me, seeing that I am extremely motivated. I requested my transcripts from previous colleges attended a few days ago. I'm sure they'll take a while with the holidays but was wondering when they finally do get the transcripts, how long does it take for them to let you know what pre reqs are needed? Is there anything I can do to advance in the program while waiting? I thought about taking info lit through Tor college if Excelsior gives the ok. Anybody else just getting there foot in the door?

Hey SuperAnnurse, have your transcripts been evaluated yet? I am still waiting on one transcript that was mailed out Monday. Pure torture since I'm so excited to get started.

Hey clearmoore, how is it going so far? Do you have a lot of general eds to take? How long did the evaluation process take for you?

Yes, it actually did and I received my preliminary review today. I have to call my counselor on Monday and ask some additional questions.

I was told it was going to take about 2-3 weeks for preliminary review but it was more like 2 weeks if that.

I hope they evaluate your's very soon :)

I believe I can start on information literacy and the free mandatory course until the full evaluation is complete (8wks). I completed A&P I and II with lab within the two year period, that's the bulk of the eval. I, however never completed Micro. I'm wondering if there's an affordable route outside of EC.

Best of luck, hope to hear good news from you soon.

Straighterline.com. Verify with your counselor, but I am 99.9 % sure excelsior accepts it as they are a partner college. I used them for my English and did the class in 11 days. It cost me a little over 3 hundred but it's a lot cheaper then 1490 for the class at excelsior and you get the same credit.

Excelsior limits partner agencies to 2 classes so you want to make sure what you want to take and transfer in.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

The core courses cannot be taken at Straighterline. This includes micro, A&P, developmental psych, and others. This is specified on Straighterline's website.

"For the Excelsior College School of Nursing (SON), core degree requirements in Associate degree programs include Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Life Span Developmental Psychology and Sociology. For Excelsior College SON Bachelor's degree programs, core degree requirements include Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics and Ethics; therefore, these courses are not accepted for transfer into the SON. I am currently enrolled as well, getting ready to register for A&P 1 through credit by exam. My A&P and micro credits were more than 5yrs old so I have to retake. I'm hoping to take my first test in mid Feb. If anyone has already taking A&P through Excelsior Uexcel, advice would be appreciated. :)

Thank you! Happy New Year to you as well. I guess I have to start saving up too. I'm was looking over the tuition and fees and saw that they charge $490 per credit hr for the multi source opt as well. I don't know how I missed that. I thought you just paid enrollment fee, exam+ site sitting fee, books, supplies, etc so if a class is 3 credits, you're paying $1470 + fee of exam etc?? I'm gonna need all the help I can get :(

So are you taking the Exam based option? I recently applied and currently waiting for my approval. Not sure which route I want to take I'm not a horrible test taker but I'm also not the greatest! But being able to come out with my RN possibly debt free is also a great perk to take the exam option!! I'm nervous either route I take

I'm going to take the exam route. I like the fact of studying on my own time and not having to log on and participate in class discussions, or have assignments. My 9 month old probably won't let that happen lol. I actually just got my preliminary review this morning and will be enrolling in the exam based opt as soon as I get the funds to do so.

You know you still can take the exams and not pay enrollment fee for 6 months or you can have a payment plan.

No, I didn't know that. How does that work? When I try to enroll online, at the end it asks for $1,065 when choosing the multi source option.

Please share... When I spoke with the advisor she only mentioned the payment option for the enrollment fee if I didn't have the money up front!
