just took the first step to enrolling in Excelsior ADN program

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I recently applied to Excelsior College for the ADN program. They called today to let me know that my LPN license has been verified and accepted. I'm so excited to move forward! I've been contemplating on going back to school for years. A little background about myself. LPN of 8 yrs. Mostly LTC experience. I have two kids. 10yr old and 8 month old. Work only weekends. This program seems perfect for me, seeing that I am extremely motivated. I requested my transcripts from previous colleges attended a few days ago. I'm sure they'll take a while with the holidays but was wondering when they finally do get the transcripts, how long does it take for them to let you know what pre reqs are needed? Is there anything I can do to advance in the program while waiting? I thought about taking info lit through Tor college if Excelsior gives the ok. Anybody else just getting there foot in the door?

I am fairly new to Excelsior College myself & am doing the option of studying on my own & testing at Pearson. Micro wasn't that bad...download the official content guide from Excelsior & buy the study guide on studygroup101 (this is the best website for study material for Excelsior. Condensed info in different formats, lots of practice tests, rationale, etc). Buy the $75 pre exams through Excelsior & study. Good luck!

That's good to know since I have to take micro and a&p. I've purchased the study guides through sg 101. I also purchased the audio CD. I plan to do a lot of studying from now to next month for micro and register to take the exam hopefully by the end of Feb. Good luck to you as well

Please share... When I spoke with the advisor she only mentioned the payment option for the enrollment fee if I didn't have the money up front!

Shameka, let's say for example you only have $500 for the enrollment fee but it's $1000. EC may also put you in a payment plan for the remainder of what is owed. Second option, pay in full but that will start the countdown towards the fee that is due in a year but you will have your full review complete. Third option, save your own money and start studying for the credit by exam route and make sure you have your enrollment fee by the 6 months but this route will not lock you in to any changes EC might have with their courses and you will not have your full review, meaning. If you are an LPN they will waive the "Essentials of Nursing Care: health difference" if you have been an LPN within the 5 yr period.

I'm personally saving my own money, doing the credit by exam route and making SURE I pay that enrollment fee as soon as possible.

I felt a bit overwhelmed in the beginning but after much prayer, reading over other nurses success with EC, it can be done, you can do it.

I hope I was able to help some.

Hi, I too have to complete Micro. I plan on purchasing the SG 101 this evening and start working on it too. How does the SG 101 look to you?

Really boring to be honest, I'm actually reading microbiology demystified, and half way thru it. I saw a few others on the excelsior thread who used it. I downloaded it for free to my tablet, it's quite interesting, I'm going to use the sg 101 notes as an additional source when I'm finished. There is a lot of helpful quizzes included. As far as enrollment goes, I actually enrolled today using the course option so that I can get the mandatory course out of the way, very boring but I got through it. I emailed my academic advisor to get approval for info lit thru Tor college. I just wanna get a jump start on things.I can't afford the multi source opt until next month, which is when I'll switch over by then initial eval should be complete and I'll be ready to start taking some exams.

Did u do the CCS 100 student experience? If yes where the heck it's at in MyExcelsior?

Yes. You have to be enrolled before it becomes available to you

Yes, I know It can be expensive but at least they give the students options. I'm very impressed overall with their progress and how fast they respond to everything, better than any traditional college I've been to.

What free download are you referring to, microbiology Demystifed?

Yes. You have to be enrolled before it becomes available to you
