I am 25, an LPN, and just starting my pre reqs for my RN bridge this fall so your not alone! I will do one year of pre reqs then enter my bridge program which will take another year so I will be about 28 when I graduate with my RN associates. And while I feel a bit old to go back to school at times, I got married, had two babies all in the last 4 years so I gotta cut myself some slack lol and you should too! It's never too late to get your dreams. I am actually glad I am getting my RN in my upper 20's...LPN was where I needed to start to gain confidence.
I guess you're right. Although I haven't gotten anything to show for the 5 years I've been in college, I do have two beautiful children. One of which has cancer, so I can't really put all the blame on myself. Haha, I wish I had the LPN to gain some confidence! The most I did was part of a medical assistant program and I absolutely adored it. That's when it dawned on me. Two years later I'm finally able to go in the right direction! lol.
I know it's hard to beeline at 21, but it doesn't matter. It really, really doesn't. 21 is so incredibly young, as is 25 (or however old you'll be when you're done.)
And when you're 40, 50, 60, 70, 80...not once will you think, "Man, if only I had become a nurse 2 years sooner."
There's no rush. Enjoy your babies and life, and good luck on your journey. Nursing will be eating for you with open arms when you get there :-)

I'm an oncology nurse. YOU HAVE A KID WITH CANCER. Don't be so hard on yourself and God bless you besides. :)
I had 3 kids under the age of 3 at 21 and I started pre-reqs at 21. It took me 5 years to finish all my pre-reqs because I went either quarter time or half time and had to take semesters off here and there because I had 2 more kids in between. I was accepted for the fall ADN program and I'm 27. Don't feel down, lots of people wait to go to college :) Good luck.
Haha, Thank you. I guess I get a little down sometimes?
It's really great to hear that all of you are still getting where you want, regardless of life. Kids makes it harder apparently! I had my daughter at 18, and she had some issues with pneumonia before her first birthday. Then with my son, we found out as I was going to take a CNA course along with my pre reqs.
I just feel like I've been in college for SO long. lol. It's like, what have I even been doing?!

I'm feeling a little in the dumps, because it's taken me up until recently to be in the position to gear towards Nursing. I'm 21 years old, and have all my general ed pre requisites but none of the sciences. There's 4 science classes, so I'm looking at not being able to apply until Spring 2015. Just wondering if anyone else is in this boat, has been, or done well.
Also, I've been in college for 5 years, but have had many issues causing me to stop periodically. :/ I also wanted to mention that I do have 2 kids, and one of them has cancer while currently undergoing treatment. Just a little more back story.
