Hello, I passed the CPNE. I can't believe it's over. Now for the boards. I thought I'd write in a few tips to hopefully help others.
Regarding the 20 minute checks:
Wash hands ( first time with soap and water )
Introduce yourself and explain interaction
Check ID band and ask for patients name
Put on gloves
Check IV site ( is it cool/warm, do you see any edema?, other abnormality)
Check skin turgor ( pinch hand, mucus membranes or fontanel ( with child upright )
Off gloves
Use hospital supplied alcohol sanitizer
Check IV tubing or tube feeding tubing
Check drip rate/flow rate
Is the solution right/ check against PCS sheets and/or MAR
Get baseline fluid levels for your I&O's
DOCUMENT ASAP!!!!!
Remember, if I did it, you can do it too.

Congratulations!!!!!:bowingpur
It took me about 3 years, but, I had to do it part time. My son had some medical problems. EC can be done quickly, but be prepared for a wait of 4-6 months by the time you get to your CPNE. Be ready to study and prepare for state boards while you wait for CPNE. I am using DVD's from Drexel University and some other DVD's from the education department at work to study for my NCLEX. Is it worth it? YES!!!
