June 2008 NCLEX support group

Published

This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.

To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.

Thanks!

I scheduled my test today for June 19th and I'm starting to wonder if I should have made it sometime in July. I just want to get it over with!!

My testing center is over 2 hours away and since the test is at 8AM, I'm going to get a hotel room for the night before so I'm not trying to drive at like 5AM.

And I SUCK at select all that apply questions. I swear in nursing school I never got any of those right! Ugh.

I also just scheduled my test. I wanted to get it done. The only date still left in the two closest sites was June 20th. I will just keep telling myself that I made it through school with good grades. Did well on my ATI's and study my butt off. I am using the NCSBN review, Saunders Q and A, ATI's and anthing else I can get my hands on. I just know that the longer I wait the more nervous I will become. I don't usually have test anxiety but this one makes me a little nervous. I just need to think positive thoughts. I will send positive thoughts your way!!!

Hello all,

I took the Nclex Rn 10 hours ago and I have yet to settle down (think I may puke). This CAT testing program with the delay in notifying us of results is really harmful to the health!

I studied for about 80 hours for the exam. I went through the HESI book and Saunders as well as practicing about 1000 questions (averaging 65-85% on practice tests). When I took the HESI, I placed in the 97th percentile of the country. I was pretty confident going into the exam I would say.

Then, dunh dunh dunh duhhhhhhh....the Nclex. Whammo! It was a joke. The questions touched on areas I had not prepared for AT ALL. I got about 20-25 SATA's. No calculations (which is my ace in the hole). And practically all med/surg questions. I'm not sure if I got any of the questions right! They all seemed vague? The computer shut off at 80 and I was thinking to myself "Come on, give me a chance to get a few right here!". I feel like I failed, but after reading all these posts it seems like I am not the only one. I think I may have done better than I feel I did. Feeling horrible is the nature of the test. It is constructed that way. We all need to remember this.

So, the reason I am posting is to say to everyone "don't worry". No one will be prepared for every question they throw at you. Prepare yourself until you are comfortable and then try to relax and do the best you can ( You CANNOT cover every base). Some questions will be hard and some will be easy. Just get in there and look at the questions as if you are a writer for the exam and do your best.

Good luck to all!:smokin:

Hey "Lauren", I saw you took it today too. What did you think?

Hey everyone,

Took NCLEX-RN today!! I'm not sure what to think about it, honestly. When it started, my heart was pounding, I could bearly concentrate. As the test progressed, I felt more at ease. The test is by no means easy, some people have told me that, and they are crazy. I felt like every question required A LOT of critical thinking, and there were very few questions where the answer just jumped right out at me. I had to closely analyze every answer and eliminate them one at a time. Much of the content was familiar, but there were a couple that I didn't even have the slightest guess!

Around 65 or so, I had the feeling that I was doing pretty good and that the computer was going to shut off at 75. Thank goodness it did, because around 70 my heart started pounding again, I surely would have had a MI if it went to 76.

Overall, I feel okay about it, but we'll see. Don't want to get my hopes up yet! Praying that I will get good news soon and I'll be "Lauren, RN"!!! Good luck to everyone that is taking the test soon, my best piece of advice, as of now, is to go to the test with a positive attitude, we made it this far, we CAN do this!!!!

LOL....that is my exact thoughts about what will happen if I go past 75 questions!

I hope you, Freddy, and all those waiting for results get good news soon!!!

Good luck and prayers to all of still waiting to test!

Ok, I just need to vent! I am taking my NCLEX on June 21st and I took Kaplan and have been doing the qbank questions and just completed question trainer 3. I CANNOT score above a 60% on any of the tests that I take! To make matters worse-I have scored the lowest on question trainer 3 which has a harder level of "passing" type questions! At this point, I am feeling that there is NO way I can take the NCLEX in two weeks and pass it! I feel like there is a ton of content I need to review but there is just not enough time! At this point should I be reviewing content while practicing questions or should I just practice as many questions as I possibly can and hope that I can answer questions based on strategy? Can someone please give me some advice, hope and encouragement?! My anxiety is really starting to get to me! I just want for this test to be OVER with so that I can start living my life that I haven't had for the past two years!

You will be able to pass this NCLEX, trust yourself. You know, I just wander sometimes with everything everyone says if it isn't mostly being so nervous that cost so many of our fellow nursing students to fail NCLEX. Maybe we should figure out relaxation tech. tailored to ourselves instead of trying to remember every single thing we learned in nrsg. school. Just a thought.

Just curious about the qtrainers, are you taking them once or do you attempt them for a second time?

I took my exam on Thursday the 5th, had only 75 questions and found out I PASSED yesterday morning! MN is a fast results state, thankfully. I'm so relieved and excited!! Congratulations to all who have passed, and best of luck to those who are taking the exam later this month!

Thanks for your encouragement travel soon! I have heard from a lot of people that anxiety and nerves can be the kiss of death on the NCLEX...so by knowing this, I know that I have to try and calm myself down! I have even started taking holy basil- an herbal supplement that lowers cortisol levels, and so far I can tell somewhat of a difference! There are moments where I can tell it's not working and then I try to calm myself down by breathing. I also posted sticky notes all over my house that say "I WILL pass the NCLEX" haha because at this point it's starting to become a mind game with me! I am planning on getting a massage the day before my test because I have heard from tons of people to not do ANYTHING the day before! I don't know how I will allow myself to do this, but I am sure going to try!

With the question trainers- I took 1 and 2 again and did only a few points better, so at this point in the game I can't see myself taking the rest of them again. I have only done the first three though, so who knows- maybe it will get better after I review some content?! Do you have any suggestions?!?! I just feel that I don't even know where to start with the content and that all of it seems so important for me to go over...Thanks again for your support! Any further advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :D

loboscon,

I don't know if it is possible to learn it all in such a short amount of time but I can tell you what I will be doing until I take mine. I will be doing the questions[at least 100 at a time] from the NCLEX-3500 cd. I start working full time on Monday so I really only have today and tomorrow to study as I test on the 14th at 8:ooam. I can't wait to get this thing over with. I get scared when I think about it but on the other hand, I hate to study so much without knowing what to expect on the test.

Good luck to you and just try to focus on your very weakest areas and practice the questions with the rationale.

Gosh I take it Monday and am NOT going to study tomorrow..I don't think it will make me feel any better :) I feel like I have Obsession/Compulsion disorder... My obsession is causing me to have a compulsion to study hehe. I keep finding myself want to look at certain concepts over and over just to make sure I don't forget anything that I would be mad at myself for forgetting!! UGH.

Thanks for posting that you guys are passing...makes me feel better! I have written on my bathroom mirror encouraging, self motivating comments :) haha. It actually helps not gonna lie!!
