Greetings All Nurses,

Your post failed to mention most of these org.(s) are a or sattelite/sub catagories of the ANA and are members of the infamous ANA! I tried to join several of them and they told me that they were part of the ANA! Look to the CNS they certify and where there that accreditation comes from! the ANA as a part of the ANA!

that is not "part" of the ANA. Its a separate organization with separate functions & separate dues. Most of the professional organizations will collaborate with each other on one thing or another at some point. That includes the ANA. So are we to participate in NOTHING because the big bad ANA might have a working relationship with it???

Talk about cutting your nose to spite your face.....

Here's one more organization to add to the long list of nursing organizations (not much for kid nurses though!)

The Society of Pediatric Nurses- a great group working to further pediatric issues in nursing.

Another item to check; in Texas you have the choice of joining ANA or not when you join TNA. Check your state and see if that option is available to you. At least get involved in your own state.

I agree.

I'm a staunch opponent of the ANA - they don't represent me. The ANA only represents 35% of nurses: BSN and AP nurses. They don't represent ADN nurses and actively advocate for their elimination. They also don't represent LVNs/LPNs and won't even let them join. It's not a national nurses organization. It's a national BSN/AP organization.

But I am a member of the Amer Assoc of Critical-Care Nurses. Their annual conference is such an experience. While I don't agree with everything AACN says (open-visitation comes to mind) they haven't made it their mission to denigrate their prespective member base.

I'm going to my third straight NTI conference in Anaheim next month. What a treat.
