I was going to wait and post this January 1 but the fact is New Years resolutions are meant to be broken and I feel like I have to address some things now. I have recently been inspired by the Man cub who at 19  is not really a cub anymore but he will always be the man cub to me. Over the worst of the Covid quarantines he didn't do much except on-line school, sleep and eat. So when he finally got vaccinated and out and about he found that he had gained 30 pounds (13.6 Kilos). He has been working out, learning about nutrition and exercise and lost 20 pounds in two months. My progress has been slower but I broke 200 pounds today. Several years ago I lost 100 pounds and my body just stalled there.

More about me: I had been treated for clinical depression for 8 years but finally have my head in a reasonable place. I have fibromyalgia, Inflamatory bowel disease and  NIDDMII. I also suffer from insomnia although that has eased back some lately and I have been a sober alcoholic for over 20 years.

In spite of the train wreck I just described I am always constantly committed to self improvement. I have hobbies for work life balance ad plan to do some traveling as soon as it is safe to do so and yes I have been vaccinated and will be getting my booster next week.

So what I am planning is to change things up . I have managed my fibro pain with anti inflamatories and  Opioids, but plan to get off the opioids completely this year. Even if I have to deal with pain which never really goes away so be it. I have consulted with my endocrinologist and an integrative medicine specialist to try to get the IBS and Diabetes under better control as I can't tolerate the side effects of metformin. So I am setting out to lose weight exercise more and finally get my weight to a manageable level.

I work aboout 40 hours a week with some overtime and for work-life balance I enjoy gardening, walking, foraging for wild food, learning new things on Wonderium and binge watching shows from time to time.

So tomorrow I post my physical stats and invite others here to do the same. We can share what type of results we are looking for, track our own and others progress and cheer eachother on.

So are you in?

So I am suffuciently healed to return to work. Going back Saturday 7/23. I am also approved for light exercise so I will be returing to the gym where I plan to do low impact aerobics in the pool. Lastly I perfomed a cacao ceremony this am which is supposed to open my mind and heart to positive intentions. I'v never done this before so not sure how it manifests in my life but it can't hurt.

I have made some decisions: ! I am officially stopping my opiode which I am been taking for several years for pain management. I haven't taken it for ya month and pain is bearable so no better time to try this than now.

Latly I am making a move to remove extra sugar from my diet. I don't do artificial sweetener per my GI docs recommendation. I don't like stevia but has anyone tried monk fruit?

I thank every one for the positive support you have given me.

Your GI doc doesn't like artificial sweetener like Splenda? Why is it bad?

I use probably 2 to 3 tsp Splenda/day, in my coffee.

So like 7 years ago I had 18 inches of my colon removed due to severe ulcerative colon disease.  My GI says no Splenda because even though its made from real sugar it is subjected to a chemical process that makes have a sharp crystal Like structure and he stated it’s like scrubbing your colon with steel wool.

Glad to hear you're on the mend Happy and can get off your pain medication.

I rarely use sugar and never artificial sweeteners.  When a recipe calls for some sugar (usually an Asian recipe) I'll leave it out or just use the real thing and cut it back.  Some dishes might need that sweet to balance it out and I figure a teaspoon of sugar in a dish that I'll get several meals out of doesn't hurt me.

hppy - props for your continuing efforts.

Question - what is it about pink salt? I've a big sodium issue.

Sorry it took so long to get back to  you. In theory Pink salk is pure sodium with few to no other contaminates. It tastes like regular salt but you use far less. I am not ready to give up meat or salt but I do a meatless Monday with roasted vegetable a mix of ancient grains and brown rice. I do find it filling ans satisfying. I also bake my own bread in the colder months when running an oven at 450 degrees just helps keep the house warm.

As some of you know I had a detached retina on memorial day weekend and ended up having two surgeries to resolve that issue. I am legally blind in that eye but you only need 1 good eye to drive in California.

So I back on track and will try to just keep pushing on.

I am down 2 pounds. Went to the Gym twice this week. Light Cardio only for now as I am still recovering from that last bout of Covid.

Good for you, Happygr8ful!

I'm UP 4 pounds.?I guess I need to cut out the popcorn, or at least some of the popcorn.?

I had an air popper to make popcorn years ago.  Wasn't as good but very low calorie and I got used to it.  You can dress it up with spices, nutritional yeast.  I used to put salsa on it.

I'm up a couple of pounds since the holidays and still don't have my act together.  Yesterday I had a late lunch of crappy food from the grocery deli...after I went to the gym which is counter productive.

I batched cooked a big pot of lentil chili so as to not spontaneously go to the store for crappy food.

I do best losing weight if I exercise before eating. It helps me maintain my weight, too.

I can't exercise with a full stomach and need to exercise between meals.  My issue that day was I went to the gym at lunch time and by the time I came out I was very hungry and while I the store getting healthy stuff spontaneously got a sandwich and chips and ate it in the car.  Not a good habit.

At least I did go to the gym.  LOL
