Join my journey

I was going to wait and post this January 1 but the fact is New Years resolutions are meant to be broken and I feel like I have to address some things now. I have recently been inspired by the Man cub who at 19  is not really a cub anymore but he will always be the man cub to me. Over the worst of the Covid quarantines he didn't do much except on-line school, sleep and eat. So when he finally got vaccinated and out and about he found that he had gained 30 pounds (13.6 Kilos). He has been working out, learning about nutrition and exercise and lost 20 pounds in two months. My progress has been slower but I broke 200 pounds today. Several years ago I lost 100 pounds and my body just stalled there.

More about me: I had been treated for clinical depression for 8 years but finally have my head in a reasonable place. I have fibromyalgia, Inflamatory bowel disease and  NIDDMII. I also suffer from insomnia although that has eased back some lately and I have been a sober alcoholic for over 20 years.

In spite of the train wreck I just described I am always constantly committed to self improvement. I have hobbies for work life balance ad plan to do some traveling as soon as it is safe to do so and yes I have been vaccinated and will be getting my booster next week.

So what I am planning is to change things up . I have managed my fibro pain with anti inflamatories and  Opioids, but plan to get off the opioids completely this year. Even if I have to deal with pain which never really goes away so be it. I have consulted with my endocrinologist and an integrative medicine specialist to try to get the IBS and Diabetes under better control as I can't tolerate the side effects of metformin. So I am setting out to lose weight exercise more and finally get my weight to a manageable level.

I work aboout 40 hours a week with some overtime and for work-life balance I enjoy gardening, walking, foraging for wild food, learning new things on Wonderium and binge watching shows from time to time.

So tomorrow I post my physical stats and invite others here to do the same. We can share what type of results we are looking for, track our own and others progress and cheer eachother on.

So are you in?

I can't exercise with a full stomach and need to exercise between meals.  My issue that day was I went to the gym at lunch time and by the time I came out I was very hungry and while I the store getting healthy stuff spontaneously got a sandwich and chips and ate it in the car.  Not a good habit.

At least I did go to the gym.  LOL

Well at least you didn't get Ice cream and a milkshake!

Well there is that.  LOL.

I've also learned to take these episodes with a grain of salt and not beat myself up too much and to not give up.  Time was I would do that and stay "f-it" and eat too much too bad for a good while afterwards.  Now I can take one incident and move on.  I see a few influencers that never stray and claim they always eat perfect and don't take a day off from exercise.  That doesn't work for me.

I have been known to get the ice cream.  And enjoy all 1000 calories in a pint.

I was bad and got Chinese food and chicken wings for dinner after work Friday night.  Jumped back on the healthy whole food plant based way which I eat 90% of the time anyway so it's easy.  Going to make some white bean burgers for dinner...wish me luck.  Vegan burgers are a witch to make since they always fall apart on me when cooking.  But it's better than processed veggie burgers from the store.  Also making some potato salad without the mayo, but with olive oil instead.  Should be good.

I'm one of the lucky ones that can eat a high carb diet and not gain weight.  My weight comes on with junk food and processed food.

What are you using as a binder for your vegan burgers?

I decided not to make them tonight but I'm using this recipe.  I'm thinking the oatmeal and the mushiness of the beans will bind it.   We'll see.

One of my recipe contacts suggested using soked Chia seeds

Chia mixed with water is a good binder.

I think there's a misprint in the recipe in that it called for 1/2 cup of lemon juice and this ruined it.  Made it too juicy and too lemony and I tried to make the burgers but they didn't hold up and they tasted horrible.  Looking at the picture in the website it looks more like 1/2 tablespoon which would make sense.  It was binding very well until I added the lemon juice like a fool, but I'm a literal cook when trying a new recipe and follow instructions.

Oh well.

Not sure what healthy food to eat for dinner but I've been good today so far.

So down another pound. This going slower than I like but I am looking for quality weight loss not just quantity

Excellent! You are doing it. Quality loss that represents good lifestyle choices is the way to go.
