Johns Hopkins University BSN/MSN Fall 2011

Published

Greetings Everyone!

I know this is early to make a thread for the Fall 2011 Hopkins Applicants! But still, it is better to start getting ready than waiting at the last minute! I highly suggest everyone start getting your letters of recommendations, and just hide it until you are ready to apply. I will be applying and submitting my application around September 2010 as an early decision applicant for Fall 2011.

I have to finish up Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Developmental Psychology, and one more chemistry class this coming Summer 2010. During the Fall of 2010 and Spring 2011, I will be finishing up just general requirements like history, Microbiology, English Composition, Statistics, some foreign languages, and humanities (elective classes).

I will be applying for the BSN Traditional Program considering I do not have a degree, thus, I am not qualified to apply for the accelerated program. I'm really excited about this.

I will only be applying to UPenn and Johns Hopkins University for my BSN traditional program. If I do not get accepted, I will be attending my current university's school of nursing. I am already in the university's nursing program, but I don't start clinical preceptorship until 2 years from now.

I will graduate May 2013 regardless where I go. Either JHU or UPenn or stay at my current university.

If I will be accepted at either JHU or UPenn, then definitely I will be attending those schools! I love nursing research, and I want to learn more about research and providing quality care to our patients.

We will see how it will go. I have six months until I submit my application to both schools. Remember time is running fast.

Hope everyone are doing well on their pre-requisites! Good luck to all!

Feel free to post around so we can help each other for Fall 2011! I've read the thread for the JHU Fall 2010. I've noticed everyone in that thread got accepted, and some waitlisted! Its a good sign!

Have a wonderful day!

It's great to see I am not the only one making the cross country move!! I too am from California (spending years both in Orange County and San Francisco). I am taking my car so I will be driving with all my stuff (& my dog!) and am planning on arriving in Baltimore early May to give me some time to settle in. The move will be stressful but I have lots of friends and family to visit as I make my way across the country! I am excited to get there & start the program!!

I'm also making the move out from the Bay Area. I'm coming with my fiance and dog in tow. I'm super excited that there are others bringing their furry friends!

Is it May yet?!

Hey Snguy! I will be attending the Accepted Students day in March. I will be in the Accelerated BSN/MSN program in Forensic Nursing. I will be shipping my car and stuff out to Charm City at the end of April. I also bought my one way ticket for 5/4. When we arrive...we go to pick up our cars and try to settle in. I think it is awesome to know there are many of us Cali people making the move to Baltimore around the same time...with our dogs too! lol. I am concerned about the floor plans...they seem a little odd. I hope my furniture fits. Kudos to all of you driving all the way across.....my bf and I thought about it, but then decided not to. Is anyone else in So. Cal? I think it would be cool to meet up before we go.

Agreed, jma! If anyone is interested in a Bay Area meetup, let's coordinate!

Hey everybody! I've been lurking on this thread for awhile and decided it was high time I opened an account and introduced myself. ; ) I was accepted early decision into the ABSN program and am also from the San Francisco Bay Area. Seems like our entire class is going to be made up of Californians, lol! I'm 26 years old and have a BA in psychology as well as an EMT-B cert. Since graduation back in 2007, I've been working in mental health at a group home for schizophrenics as well as at a local hospital as an ED tech. I'm very excited to begin this new chapter of my life and I look forward to meeting you all soon.

In regards to housing, my first choice is a small studio at The Standard. I was out in Baltimore back in October for the JHUSON open house and visited a few potential places. I was impressed with what The Standard had to offer, probably because for a luxury apartment studio out here in Cali I would be paying quite a bit more than the $920 a month they are asking. If anyone is interested in getting in there, I would encourage you to apply immediately as they have a waiting list even now. I haven't decided if I will be bringing my car or not yet. Seems like it would be an expense that could be avoided. Covered parking, at least at most apartment complexes, seems to run in the $100 a month range. Does anyone think it would be unwise to be without a car?

Anyways, congrats to all who have been accepted! It's going to be a fun ride and I can't wait to start!

Hi and congrats to all the Early Decision applicants who have already been accepted! I applied to the ABSN/MSN option (Peds) Regular Decision, interviewed on the 13th of January and am now eagerly waiting to hear back.

How are all my fellow Regular Decision-ers holding in there? How did interviews go and when were you told to expect a call? I was told February...but hopefully it'll be sooner. I'm trying to be patient but it's tough! Especially after reading about all you lucky ED applicants who are already accepted :)

Anyone else potentially moving a long distance? I'm from Portland, Oregon so Baltimore would be quite the change of scenery!

Hey there! I also applied to the ABSN/MSN (Peds) for regular decision. I had my interview on 1/11. They told me I should hear back by the end of January or beginning of February. I'm deseparately waiting for a call.

I'm not too confident about my interview. I felt that it was really awkward.

I'm trying to stay positive! Haha

Hi one.two.three!

Sorry to hear you're not too confident about the interview. I'm sure you did just fine!

Oooh I hope it is by the end of January. I just looked at last year's Regular Decision posters and it seems that the majority of them heard in the first week of February. Except last year there was a giant storm and a ton of people's letters and calls were delayed late into February. Hope that doesn't happen again! I'm not sure my nails could recover after that kind of stress! :)

Hi Again Jma2119 :) That is so neat that you will be shipping out your car and belongings. Could you give me more details on which company you are going through to ship your car out and where exactly you would go to pick up your things? I heard of amtrak doing a service as far as moving things, but being able to use a company to ship your car would be amazing! I am too contemplating driving from So-Cal to Baltimore but the 2 day drive is a little daunting as of now. I'm hoping to get a feel the first semester than possibly driving my car after :). Thanks jma2119! My name is Stephanie btw....it sometimes feels so funny addressing everyone by their account name :p.

Hello,

So I am new to this thread. I am really glad someone created it, because it has helped calm my worries a lot, and it's nice to know that others are going through the same hell! I have a phone interview today in my office in Germany. I am applying reg decision to traditional pathway Bachelor's and Adult Nurse Practitioner Master's. I am hoping for the absolute best! Is anyone else applying for the Baccalaureate Merit Scholarship? I am applying, but having a hard time with the essay.

Congratulations to the Accepteds- hoping I will be joining that clan soon

Hi everyone!

I have also been a lurker for a while, and thought I should finally introduce myself. I was accepted early decision to the ABSN program. Good luck to everybody who is still waiting to hear back! I know even just waiting until December was hard enough.

Also, thanks to everyone for all the information housing. I'm moving from Ohio which is a lot closer than most of you it seems, but it's still pretty intimidating trying to figure out housing since Baltimore varies so much from street to street.

But first things first, is anybody else working on their Peace Corps fellows essay? For some reason I'm finding it wayyyy more challenging than I thought it would be...

Hi Lalap,

I am an RCVP too! Where and when did you serve? I was in Ecuador 2008-2010. I finished my PC Fellows essay a few days ago and sent it in. It took me a while!! It was hard to answer all those questions in just 2 pages!! I had to make the font smaller and expand the margins to make it fit. Question - are you doing one big essay or are you answering the questions separately?? I wasn;t sure which to do - I called to try to talk to someone but they were so busy with interviews I couldnt get the right people on the phone. So I did them separate instead of one big flowing essay. I hope it is ok!!

Did you apply for the Gurtler Scholarship as well??
