Johns Hopkins University BSN/MSN Fall 2011

Published

Greetings Everyone!

I know this is early to make a thread for the Fall 2011 Hopkins Applicants! But still, it is better to start getting ready than waiting at the last minute! I highly suggest everyone start getting your letters of recommendations, and just hide it until you are ready to apply. I will be applying and submitting my application around September 2010 as an early decision applicant for Fall 2011.

I have to finish up Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Developmental Psychology, and one more chemistry class this coming Summer 2010. During the Fall of 2010 and Spring 2011, I will be finishing up just general requirements like history, Microbiology, English Composition, Statistics, some foreign languages, and humanities (elective classes).

I will be applying for the BSN Traditional Program considering I do not have a degree, thus, I am not qualified to apply for the accelerated program. I'm really excited about this.

I will only be applying to UPenn and Johns Hopkins University for my BSN traditional program. If I do not get accepted, I will be attending my current university's school of nursing. I am already in the university's nursing program, but I don't start clinical preceptorship until 2 years from now.

I will graduate May 2013 regardless where I go. Either JHU or UPenn or stay at my current university.

If I will be accepted at either JHU or UPenn, then definitely I will be attending those schools! I love nursing research, and I want to learn more about research and providing quality care to our patients.

We will see how it will go. I have six months until I submit my application to both schools. Remember time is running fast.

Hope everyone are doing well on their pre-requisites! Good luck to all!

Feel free to post around so we can help each other for Fall 2011! I've read the thread for the JHU Fall 2010. I've noticed everyone in that thread got accepted, and some waitlisted! Its a good sign!

Have a wonderful day!

Hey T-Dasha-

Could you give any tips or information about what your phone interview was like as an ABSN/MSN applicant?

I've got an interview on Monday... and don't really know how to prepare.

Thanks!

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I read through this forum from the beginning. The early decision applicants had their interviews awhile ago so they listed the questions that they were asked. I was asked the same questions during my interview. The only additional question that they asked was "What do you perceive to be the difference between a medical doctor and a nurse practitioner?"

Good luck!!

Hi everyone! & congrats to those who have made it!

i have a rather silly question about housing (that i may be able to find on my own but its proving to be overwhelming!) and i was wondering if anyone could help. please forgive me if this has been discussed already (im also new to allnrses) i also applied to the absn/msh as well regular decision waiting anxiously for a response! i have been preparing myself for whatever may come so ive been trying to do some research now. most of the schools im applying to is off campus housing and well to be honest this whole housing thing has been making me nervous!. i am graduating college in may (11) and have never lived anywhere but home and the college dorm room. i dont really have a job (besides being an RA on campus and work study but they dont give much). i was wondering if anyone had tips on how to go about housing with regards to the financial aspect. i would welcome any wisdom. maybe from those in a similar situation (fresh college graduate moving into a real place for the first time :) ).

Thanks in advance! and good luck to all those still waiting to hear! :)

Congratulations! Baltimore is the epitome of a renter's market. And most of the rowhouses are 3+ bedrooms. Once the regular decision applicants are accepted and it gets closer, there will be a mad rush of folks looking for roommates.

I was early decision last year and agonized over housing for months. Because of the sinplicity, I strongly considered a student-friendly highrise. But two months before my program started I decided to share a rowhouse with a couple folks. I cannot overstate how easy it was to find somewhere to rent. I was even able to negotiate a 10% rent reduction because I signed a multi-year lease (I'm also BSN-MSN). Hopkins is a huge name here and having an acceptance letter gives you a lot of credibility as a prospective tenant. Even more so if you're accepted to the graduate program as well.

My biggest advice is to talk to a local (or at least a current student) about the exact neighborhood you're looking in. One or two blocks makes an amazing difference in safety here. And absolutely do not rent anywhere without seeing it in person. Pictures don't show you the moldy stench of that beautiful old house and definitely won't show you that half the houses on that block are board-ups.

Baltimore has many fun, quirky neighborhoods with affordable rentals and I really love it here. But location is everything!

I believe someone from your class is setting up a Facebook group for your class. And check the JHUSON website. Click on "Accepted Students" and then on the 'SONForums' link at the bottom. There are two areas; one for talking to classmates and one for asking current students questions. And in a couple months there will be an Accepted Student's Day. All these will give you ample opportunity to find roommates.

Hope all this helps! Again - congratulations to everyone. Before you know it you'll be here!

Congratulations, jeypa! :yeah:

I've set up a Facebook page for the class. Search for "Johns Hopkins Accelerated Nursing Class of 2012" and like the page. Not sure if you're in the accelerated or traditional program, but come check it out either way. There are others with housing concerns and it's a good way to get to know people in the class.

Congrats again! I'm so excited to get this party started!!! :clown:

hey protongirl

thanks but i havent gotten accepted yet but im crossing my fingers (im a regular decision applicant)! i had written the post saying that i was going to wait until i got accepted (if i get accepted!) to talk to a financial aid officer but lost connection and the whole page i had written lol and i didnt remember what i had written.

but thanks soooo much for all your information i was looking at the sonforums and it seemed to really helpful with finding a place. im just concerned about affording because this is the first time im really on my own, in a real apartment, because lets face it a dorm does not really count lol (and this applies to all the schools im applying to) and my parents are not in the financial situation in where they can help me too much, so like i said any wisdom is welcomed!

omg! i feel terrible and misleading :( (Fixing first post at this very moment!!) im sorry all!

but thank you cartwheel!! hope to be joining that fb group in a few weeks!

No worries! It's not a big deal.

As for money - save as much as you can, look for any scholarships, hope for a decent grant, and resign yourself to taking out copious loans. You'll find a way - but it is stressful. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm paying for next year!

all this talk about housing is making me anxious. does anyone know when we are supposed to hear, or how? or when regular decision people found out last year? i'm losing it over here. :)

Hi Mef! I know the wait can be agonizing. I applied ED and even those 6 weeks were torture!

Check last years thread to see when regular decision applicants were notified: Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN Fall 2010 Anyone? - Nursing for Nurses

Good luck!

thanks cartwheel! I don't know why I didn't think to look there in the first place :)

Looks like we're going to have a long month ahead of us. Happy waiting!

Welcs, mef! Decision time will be here before you know it!

To which program did you apply?
