Johns Hopkins Interview new grad

Published

Hi everyone!

I am graduating in December of this year, and was lucky enough to get an interview at JHH in one of their ICU's! It is this Friday and I have been preparing relentlessly. I also read their Interview guide which was extremely helpful. I was hoping to hear from anyone who has ever interviewed with them (preferably as a new grad but I would love to hear from everyone). I'm curious about the process, the questions, what type of candidate they look for. I don't interview well but I am an exceptionally hard worker and driven. Not interviewing well makes me nervous, I want this badly. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Just remember when you work there the pay is awful. They expect you to be thrilled that you work under their prestigious name. Great place to start out though, good luck. You will do fine. Their turnover rate is high

What is the new grad pay? I was sent something that explained with pay diff./holidays/weekends in averaged to about 29/hour and change.

Sorry that sent early before I was done typing.

Thank you! Asa new grad I don't want to settle, however I am not incredibly concerned with the pay starting out. I want to learn as much as I possibly can and I've heard that they are a great place to do that being a teaching hospital

RNGrad16, how did the interview go? I also had an interview a few weeks ago for a position in their peds department.

Hi!

My interview went well I received an offer letter about a week later! I get nervous easily and so I brought a bottle of water (to help with the dry mouth Ha). Well I drank the entire thing before the interview :( So my mouth was so dry and just thank god the nurse manager was so friendly! I was asked a couple of questions, we talked about orientation and the unit and how the first few years would go and what opportunities would be available. I then had 2 hours of share time with a nurse and that went well I love the unit and I feel very blessed to have a position there upon graduation. I will learn so much and I know it will be hard and no one is ever going to like everything but the pros far outweighed the cons. I can't wait! How did yours go?! Which unit did you interview for? Before going to interview with the nurse manager I met with the nurse recruiter with two other girls interviewing. One already worked there as a tech, and I think the other also? Anyways, the other one was also interviewing in Peds. She was incredibly nice, you could tell just by talking to her that she would make a great Peds nurse, maybe you will meet her if you get the job

Congrats on the job offer! What unit will you be on? I also received an offer a few days later! I will be on Bloomberg 9 South. I'm a tech as well, just transferring units.

Congratulations!!!

When do you Graduate? Also when is your start date?

I am Graduating December 17th, with a February 6th start date. I'll be on the MICU.

The set up of your interview/share time sounds very similar to mine. I met with the nurse recruiter first then she walked me over. The nurse manager was great! After the interview I shadowed one of the nurses for about 3 hrs. I really enjoyed the unit so I'm excited to start!

Congratulations!!!

My nursing program is a little different than most. It's an associates to bachelors (ATB) program. So in December I'll have my associates and in May 2017 I'll graduate with my BSN. I opted to start in June after I finish school.

It's funny that you mentioned you'll be in the MICU! I was originally placed there to be a CNE/tech but it didn't work out so now I'm in Neuro. Maybe we would of crossed paths if I was still there lol

I'm also in an ATB program! I will have my associates in December and my BSN next year hopefully may but possibly December depending on how orientation goes. I first interviewed in the MICU and if that did not work out I was going to go to Neuro lol so weird...

Also, my sister-in-laws sister works in the Neuro ICU downtown, she loves it!

Oh wow! What are the odds?! What schools are you with? I'm with CCBC Catonsville and Towson.

I'm on 12 West now which is the step down unit to the NCCU where she is.
