Hey! I am starting to apply for the traditional BSN/MSN program at Johns Hopkins, and I was wondering if anyone else is out there freaking out about their applications!
Holler back!
Does anyone know if Hopkins is a super type A competitive program, or are people chill and helpful? I am trying to decide between Hopkins and Jefferson. I don' t think there really is any question for me but my mom did bring up an interesting point about the types of students that may be drawn to this school. Does anyone have an answer for me? I am super laid back and I am wondering if anyone else who is going will be too? Thanks!
I was afraid of this too, but so far I feel like the people in the program want you to succeed. They have a high retention rate and I only hear positive things from the students. I've been reading the blogs and it gave me an idea of what kind of experience the students have. Also the staff have been so helpful during the whole application process and I was only a prospective student! I can't imagine what kind of service they will provide once I an actual student. Here is the link to the blog if you're interested: http://www.son.jhmi.edu/blogs/blogs/default.aspx
I have heard from a couple of people that there are a lot of type A personalities, but I don't know that that necessarily means that people aren't helpful. I have also heard that overall, the students at the SON are all pretty cool (from a student who just finished her first semester). I am definitely not type a, but I am competitive with myself and always want to do the best, but I also enjoy studying with other people and helping each other out. I don't know much about Jefferson, but I am sure that you will find a good balance of people at any school.
Hi Chronospyke,
One thing you may want to weigh between the 2 schools is the clinical opportunities. Not only the number of clinical hours but also the affiliated hospital, clinics and individual NPs. I've heard that most of the "learning" occurs during hands-on clinical training so it's important to have good placements.
that's awesome, allison! congratulations, you're going to be a great nurse! :)
unfortunately, i got my rejection letter yesterday. i'm currently in the process of contacting mary o'rourke to review my application, and submit a letter of reconsideration. i hope it goes well, but if not, i plan to accept the decision and move on.
congratulations to all of those accepted, and best of luck to us who got denied and are still trying!

I know exactly what you mean about the waiting be so difficult. I haven't heard anything yet either but I'm hoping sometime this week! If not this week, then it has to be in the next 2 weeks...I can't imagine it will be much longer. Hang in there!
