Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!

Published

Hey! I am starting to apply for the traditional BSN/MSN program at Johns Hopkins, and I was wondering if anyone else is out there freaking out about their applications!

Holler back! :nurse:

I think what helped me out the most was definitely my interview and maybe my essays. My gpa is average (3.5), I submitted my GRE scores (1160), I have some volunteer and shadowing experience but nothing extensive. I actually got C's in both chemistry and biology so I was really worried that would be a problem, but somehow I guess it was not. I enclosed a letter with my application asking the committee to look at my more recent semesters (including microbiology, stats, etc.) as a true indication of my "academic potential", hoping this would convince them to forgive the biology and chem grades. I would definitely say it is worth going to the school for the interview rather than doing a phone interview if you are really worried about your application. I know it is expensive and time consuming but in my case at least, I think it was well worth it. I think it is a lot easier to communicate your passion about the program as well as nursing in general. Sorry I can't offer much advice, but just be confident and don't give up...you will be successful! : )

So I got my rejection letter :o. I'm so bummed that I didn't get in! I guess I'm going to be waiting to hear about the other schools I applied to. UUGGGHHHH!!!

i got rejected also; got my letter yesterday. i was upset for a little while but im over it now. i realize it wasnt for me right now and maybe i couldnt handle the acceleration and price tag. im still hopeful about my u of md application. i will write a letter as suggested asking them to focus on my most recent semesters where i average a 3.8. my overall is a 3.074. i hope that is good enough for u of md. ive heard different things. anyway good luck to yall that got in and sorry to those who didnt. :icon_roll

Sorry about that ladies. Much good luck with the rest of the schools. That letter will definitely help, any additional info cant hurt. Try to draw as much attention to the high marks in your grades.

Has anyone else heard anything yet? I'm so anxious! I dread getting the mail.

I also applied to u of md...waiting as well. Hopefully we both get some good news out of that one!

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to figure out what to do about tuition at JHU. I am really drawn to the program, but the amount of debt is a bit scary. How are the rest of you dealing with it? I have also been accepted to a program that charges half of the tuition. I don't think it is a bad school, but I am really intrested in Hopkins. Do I just need to suck it up?

Thanks!

Pianitra, that is precisely why I have to decline my acceptance to Hopkins, BC, Columbia, NYU, and Vanderbilt. I'm opting to go to a state school and then continue on with the MSN at a later date at one of the top schools.

Good luck making your decision.

Not that I got accepted or anything yet, but you bring up a good point...

Oh man, the state school I would have applied to would only have cost about $3000/year in tuition...and the cost of living is pretty low, and its only one year. Sigh, the deadline passed! Now to think of it, I really should have applied, and just do the Masters somewhere else too.

I guess it really depends on what you plan on doing afterwards, and what resources you have to pay the tuition with in the meantime...you can always just take out a huge loan, and pay it back later. Both schools should have financial aid, try asking each school to see how much aid youd be able to get--and calculate how much is left over that youd need to pay off, and see if you can do it. Make it an informed decision.

Oh, do be sure to fill out the FAFSA very soon...according to the money ppl on that show I watched, its very limited this year.

I'm living off savings now, and its running dry very quickly. Ive been so caught up with the school stuff, that I barely have time to look for a job. Now I have to do taxes and the FAFSA. And I still havent heard back from JHU. Sigh.

Found a thread that asks the same thing: https://allnurses.com/graduate-nurse-forum/johns-hopkins-worth-365630.html

I got denied also, for sure this time! SIGH. The wait was such a killer, but I figured that it meant bad news.

Anyone know of any other ABSN programs out there, that hasnt reached the deadline to apply yet?

Hey, sorry for the delayed response to your question. My interview was straight foward but they did not try to sell the school to me i asked them more questions than they asked me. they asked abotu my undergrad and major, (but i did have to do some explaining on those) and they also asked about what i am doing in between the time i graduated and when i will start the program... I made my decision with JHU and i think it is a good one i believe that the hands on and clinical experience there will be better than at University of Rochester. :)

has anyone else been wait listed?
