  1. More transfer credits: I just want to add that in the Spring term it is possible to transfer 3 credits for a course in research from nearly any course that has research in the title. You'll have to provide the course description and possibly the syllabus in order to get credit. Also, it is written that those who seek transfer credit will have to write a critique of a nursing research article. This may or may not be true. Thus far those of us who are not taking the course haven't been asked to write anything.
  2. Chaya, you really don't know who she is?
  3. Does anyone know the orientation schedule? I know it starts tomorrow at 8AM, but when is it supposed to end? Is Tuesday also an orientation day? I know this is a bad way to start, but where does it state that orientation begins at 8am? I believe it, but I can't find the email or the information anywhere that states the time. Also, where exactly are we expected to go? Thanks
  4. Hi, Does anyone know if we are expected to take out a professional liability insurance (student status)? Either it was for Binghamton or I can't seem to find it among my Downstate forms. Thanks
  5. Ellez5, I'll also be joining you in June. I've lived in and around the Park Slope area for several years, so I am familiar with the area and the distances. You may also want to consider Windsor Terrace and South Slope. One thing I want to add is that if you are willing, you can quickly and easily commute by bicycle. I've been commuting to work in Manhattan for years. The commute to SUNY Downstate from the all the areas you mentioned includes a lovely ride through Prospect Park and shouldn't take more than 15 min tops. Robert
  6. Pianitra, that is precisely why I have to decline my acceptance to Hopkins, BC, Columbia, NYU, and Vanderbilt. I'm opting to go to a state school and then continue on with the MSN at a later date at one of the top schools. Good luck making your decision.
  7. One more waitlist at Penn. After the horrible interview I had, I am surprised that I wasn't rejected.
  8. Congratulations and good luck with your studies
  9. I'm adding to the thread in the hope that someone can offer some advice because I am struggling with this. How would you feel about staggering your studies in the following manner: Attend a school where tuition was $2500 per semester for a 12-month BSN instead of 50-70k at some of these other private schools, but then apply to another program for the MS? You'd have the BSN and could work and hopefully have your employer reimburse a good percentage of graduate tuition, but this would mean that instead of finishing in 2-3 years (BC is 21 months!), you'd finish in 4-5 years but have minimal debt. How might you decide? I ask this because I'm still paying off grad school at Columbia (public health), I'm over 40 and I've been accepted at Hopkins, Boston College, SUNY Stony Brook, and NYU. I'm still waiting to hear from VCU, Vanderbilt, Penn, Arizona, and Columbia. I will add that my reasoning to date caused me to withdraw from UW and Yale despite being asked to interview - but don't let this influence what you would do. I'd appreciate any and all advice. Thank you for weighing in.
  10. I got my call last week. I've also been accepted to a state school accelerated BSN program that will run me ~$10,000 for the entire program. Anyone know how much Hopkins costs for the first year? Congratulations to those of you accepted and for those who were not, keep trying! This is my third year trying to get to nursing school.
  11. I received my financial aid packet. They've offered 3k in nursing scholarship and 2k in work-study, which leaves me >10k short of the 17.6k tuition per term. While this meager financial aid package comes as no surprise, I have no choice but to decline my acceptance and look elsewhere. Good luck to you all!
  12. Hello to everyone! I've also been accepted to the BAT program and will be starting in May. I live in NYC and in time I will definitely have many questions about life in and around Binghamton; i.e., housing, car, etc. For the moment, the first question concerns second semester chemistry. I've been told to take it at Southern Columbia University. It's a self-paced online course, but costs $800. Does anyone have less expensive recommendations? Thanks for any help. Robert
  13. I called this week and had a friend call the very next day to ask for an approximate date when the decisions would be communicated. In both instances the answer was "I can't remember. Be patient!" The person on the other end of the phone was even unable to tell me if decisions would be ready in April or in March. Does anyone from last year recall when the letters were received? Thanks
  14. Hello everyone, Forgive me for airing my anxieties about financial matters here on this thread. And forgive me for not investigating this thoroughly with the CUSN financial aid officer. I am a 41 year-old male with an MPH and 36k in grad school loans (~50k with interest factored in) who has been accepted to Columbia (and only CUSN). While I haven't gathered nearly enough information regarding tuition and expenses for the program, I have a rough estimate of approximately 104k for tuition and clinical fees combined for the 3-year program. Does this jibe with others' calculations? And how much do you all estimate all costs, including living expenses will run? What to think of 150-180k (CU + grad loans combined) in loans? I am so troubled by this that I am giving serious consideration to looking for other, less expensive avenues to the MSN. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you and congratulations to all of you who will be attending the program.
