Hey! I am starting to apply for the traditional BSN/MSN program at Johns Hopkins, and I was wondering if anyone else is out there freaking out about their applications!
Holler back!
Hi YellowBone,I got the same.
I knew I probably would, but the real thing is even worse than the expected. Sigh. Maybe I can start a support group for this w/ some obscure title: "Denial onset Depression" anyone care to join? :chuckle
Btw, congrats to all those who got in!!!! Yay!! Your hard work paid off!
I will join. Send me an invitation.
I got my call last week. I've also been accepted to a state school Accelerated BSN program that will run me ~$10,000 for the entire program. Anyone know how much Hopkins costs for the first year?
Congratulations to those of you accepted and for those who were not, keep trying! This is my third year trying to get to nursing school.
Congratulations mazinni! All your hard work has definitely paid off now that you have been accepted. That definitely encourages me to try again if I am not accepted this year.
Well I know Hopkins is quite a bit more than $10,000 but just how much I am not certain. I think they have the information on their website though.
Best of luck to you in making your decision!
Congratulations, that's awesome! Where are you from? Did you find out today? Also, would you mind sharing your gpa/experience/etc.? I'm just trying to get an idea of what they look for so I can reapply next year if I am not accepted. I really appreciate your help!
Hi There alrees,
I am from Seattle and I did find out yesterday, they called around 1pm PST.
I was suprised to get in because I am not a 5 star candidate in every catergory, but I did serve in the Peace Corps and I think that must have had some influence. I had my interview just a few weeks after I submitted my application. My undergraduate gpa was just a paltry 3.0 (my college didn't factor in credits from abroad. I spent a semester in Kenya). Since graduation, I have been working in medical research for 5 years (with a 2.5 year break for the PC). I also volunteered at the county burn ICU for a year and a half, which was a great experience and helped solidify my interest in nursing. I really gained respect for the knowledge and expertise of the nurses in that setting.
I hope that helps somewhat, although I don't expect that you will want to go to the peace corps just to get in to nursing school. This is my second time around on applications too. Last year I applied to schools here in Seattle and didn't have luck with any of those. I wish you luck with the next time around. :)
The ABSN program should run about $87k, but its only one year. Its like buying bulk foods @ Costco. Pricey, but you get a lotta stuff in one package. I'm a bit dizzy from the computer at the moment.

Thanks for all the info Pianitra! You definitely sound like a unique applicant and obviously all your hard work paid off. It is definitely reassuring to know there are people out there who did try a second time around. It gives me hope that if it doesn't work out this time, maybe next year! Congratulations again!!
