Johns Hopkins Accelerated Summer Entry for BSN/MSN 2014

Hi everyone! As the early and regular decision deadlines for the Hopkins accelerated programs approach, I thought I would start a new thread for this year. It seems like it's been a pretty useful source of support for prior applicants during this grueling process :)

I will be starting in May with you as well. There does seem to be more Fall Cohort folks on this thread. I'm sure we will all get to know each other once both programs get started.

I am anxious to hear back about financial aid. Has anyone talked to folks at JHU about what kind of financial aid they typically give?

@ ejohnson2 well we will be able to fill out the fafsa for the 14-15 school year starting jan 1 so they will need that info before doing anthing, and i keep checking back on their website for financial aide and they still havent updated it for our school year yet. But i am also anxious as well

I am new to this nursing forum. I applied to JHU Regular Decision for the ABSN May (Summer) Entry. I haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone else heard anything about an interview?

I also applied for regular decision bs/msn but haven't heard back. Is it true that if I don't get into the bs/msn program, they will automatically consider me for the ABSN program?

They BS-MSN isn't a separate program, it is still part of the BS programs. So there are essentially 3 outcomes you could have:

1) Deny from both (BS and MSN)

2) Accepted to both (BS and MSN)

3) Accepted to BS portion but not the MSN

One reason for the third outcome could be in your personal statement. interview you did not give the committee a good indication as to why you wanted your specialty etc. Another reason could be a space issue in the MSN program. However if the third outcome does happen to you do not panic, you can always re-apply to the MSN portion while in the BS program. I had a few classmates who ended up doing that.

Did you apply to just the BSN program or BS-MSN? Only select BS-MSN applicants are invited to interview. If you are just BSN there is no interview.

I applied to the ABSN. I am pretty sure there are interviews...what makes you think there aren't? I know not everyone is invited in for an interview. Do you know when we should hear back?

There are not interviews for BSN only. I graduated from JHUSON and worked in the admissions office.

Ok, thanks for the info. On the FAQ page it says the first two weeks in March is the time where applicants should expect to hear back. Do they send out denials before that or just everybody all at once during that timeframe?

It's been done both ways but they generally go out around the same time. They are done in batches so to speak with both denials and acceptances going out at relatively the same time. So yes you should expect to hear back within the first two weeks of March but given all the snow/ weather closures they have had recently they may be a bit backlogged reading files so when March 1 hits and you haven't heard anything don't freak out ;)

Hi Everyone! I am new to allnurses and wanted to say hello and good luck!! I have also applied to direct entry programs for 2014 and I am anxiously waiting to hear back. I applied regular admission to JHU fall ABSN/MSN...I figure we have at least another month to wait, so I am distracting myself with prereqs :) It is starting to get REAL!! I received an invitation to interview at Duke, and I am not sure if I can afford to make the journey across the country, while still waiting to hear back from the other schools I applied. The timing thing is driving me nuts!!
