Johns Hopkins 2015 ABSN & Masters Entry

Published

This thread is for applicants applying to Johns Hopkins, for either the ABSN or the new Master's Entry program. I've searched a few times and haven't found a thread for this year's admissions cycle, so I decided to start one.

After lots of thinking, I decided to apply to the Master's Entry instead of the ABSN. Anyone else out there applying?

@Tenta - Congrats on your acceptances to both UCSF and Hopkins. I was recently accepted to the Hopkins MSN entry program for 2015. I am also interested in UCSF's program, but didn't have my pre-reqs completed in time for their deadline. I was wondering if you could share a bit more about your decision to pursue UCSF versus Hopkins. Thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes.

Thanks, and congrats to the wave of folks receiving acceptances today! I'm choosing UCSF because I am from San Francisco, want to stay, and want to directly go on and get my NP. If JH hadn't discontinued the BSN/MSN program, I'd have a much harder decision.

I made a fb group for masters entry... search "Johns Hopkins Masters-Entry Class of 2017"

Check out HRSA Nurse Corps scholarship and loan repayment programs if you're worried about tuition: Loan Repayment & Scholarship

You have to commit a couple years to working in a medically under-served community, but if you are already interested in community health the program is a win-win.

@yowheez

I was looking into both the scholarship and loan repayment programs, but Nurse Corps seems to be paying the student less than what they would be making as a new grad. Did I misread the pamphlet?!

The scholarship program offers 2 years of tuition in exchange for 2 years of FT work.

The loan repayment program offers 60% of qualifying loans in exchange for 2 years of FT work.

In this in addition to the salary during the 2 years of FT work, or in place of the salary. The former would make more sense!

I just found out about the scholarship program and I'm not sure. But I've spoken to someone at Balt City HD about the repayment program and the loan payments are on top of salary. Participants are responsible for getting a job at a qualified site and they're paid by their employer. I would imagine that's the case for the scholarship program too.

Does anyone know what's the start date for the master's entry program? It says fall semester but I'm not sure about the exact date.

I'm interested in the HRSA Nurse Corp program as well. I believe that after college you have to search for a job in an under-served area. It's a regular job, with regular pay by your employer. HRSA just needs to know you're working in that area; they have nothing to do with actual job. All they do is pay your tuition when you sign a contract to commit to the two years.

If I'm wrong someone let me know. I'm waiting for them to open up the application. The lady I spoke to said it will open this month, but she's not sure when.

sept 8th I called today!

Has anyone not heard back yet?

cddam375 I am here with you...I haven't heard anything either....

I haven't heard back either cddam375.. I emailed admissions this morning, I'll let you know what they say

Hi everyone!!! Congrats to everybody this is such an exciting time!! I'm currently trying to decide between UCLA and Johns Hopkins. I'm from California so I'm mostly concerned about the cost of Johns Hopkins. Does anyone have any input on whether one school over the other would increase my chances of getting a job or getting in to NP school? I'm so torn since JHUSON has such a good reputation but so expensive :/
