Job searching while under investigation

Published

I was suspended from my job last week and was told there would be an internal investigation. ( co-sign discrepancy)I’m trying to get a job ASAP. I’m so nervous the places I’m applying are going to reach out to my job and they’ll say things that will affect me getting the job. Has anyone ever been in this situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TY

Thanks for the feedback! I’m just trying to get a nursing job YESTERDAY. I interviewed with Davita(I’ve read they’re accepting with license restrictions) I do not have anything on my license now, but if this issue with my employer goes further I want to have a secured job. Prayers and good vibes appreciated!

Did you get the job? Any news since you last posted?

Just FYI to add - I usually believed that a resignation was considered 'voluntary'. And that could exclude you from collecting unemployment benefits.

A termination could be contested (as in wrongful termination) and you could still be considered eligible for unemployment benefits.

Now things may have changed over the years.

These are general rules of thumb. The empl dept people will also say that there are circumstances where they will rule in the ex employee’s favor at a hearing. But you have to request the hearing if you want your chance.

From what I understand, they cannot say anything negative other than they would not rehire you.

No, they can report negative job performance if that is true. An employment attorney told me that anything stated by the employer is taken to be true.

Hi, I haven’t gotten a job yet. I’ve had a few interviews but nothing confirmed. My biggest fear is that they’re reaching out to my old employer. I’ve given references using the charge nurse as a supervisor verses the manager. I just want to work and fear I’ve been black listed.
How about you? We’re you able to find work?
I wish you the best

AbbeyR - If the prospective employer goes thru Personnel or HR directly, they may NOT be contacting your reference person.

That might be an idea to check if poss with your reference source to see if that is where a problem could be.

I can tell you when I was under investigation I was able to work at DaVita for months. I was able to work up until the day that BON took an actual action on my license. So keep looking and hang in there.

I was able to get a job. I start next week. I’m praying I’ll be to work as long as I can before poop hits the fan. This new employer has a union so I wonder if they’d be able to help if/when I have actions.

CONGRATS!!

Enjoy the fact you are working again. IF the BON contacts you, get a lawyer ASAP.

You're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. However, as many have said, even if places shouldn't say ill of prior workers some do. Why not spend a bit and have a check your reference place call your place of work and get a reference check. Then you'll know exactly what they said.

Search under "check your reference." I think when I did it, it cost $40 and was well worth it knowing that I received a fair reference.
