Job Offer. Should I take it????????????

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Was offered a job with a starting salary of $30.00/hr in Arlington. There is a 5 grand sign on bonus along with 3 grand for moving expenses. Should I be worried about the working conditions at the hospital (Medical Center of Arlington)? Thanks for any advice!

Specializes in ED, Cardiac Medicine, Retail Health.
All of it (starting wage and bonus) sounds waaaay too good to be true.

Yes it does sound very good. The starting salary of $29.50/hr (not $30 as I originally posted) is based on my 2.5 years of nursing experience, and my 20 years of military medical experience (according to HR). If I did not have the military experience the pay would have been $26/hr. I am being cautiously optimistic and will ask a lot of questions when I meet the manager of Wednesday. The floor is a new or expanding cardiac floor. But i still wonder why the hospital would fly me out from Boston to interview. Is there a shortage of cardiac nurses in Texas? I highly doubt it, but I will go a listen to what the hospital is offering.

Specializes in interested in NICU!!.

howdy-and welcome to texas!!

i would take the job! good luck in the future, and go cowboys!!

Remember that Texas also does not have state tax, so you will only be paying feds, mdcr, ss ect. I lived and worked in Corpus Christi for 8 yrs, but I had to leave. I became allergic to Mesquite and it is everywhere there!!

Specializes in geriatrics, medsurg, group homes.

I would ask what the nurse patient ratio is, also i would look at nurse turnover. this might give you a little insite and what you are getting into

Specializes in ER, ICU.

It sounds like a good deal. Speaking from experience..if you take the job place the bonus money in a savings account until after you have completed the contract. That way if you don't finish it you wont be in the hole afterward. And by the way they don't prorate the bonus.

30/hr? whats to think about? congrats!!!!! are u a lpn or rn? signing bonus too! wow..

I was out in Arlington, TX last Fall and spent my whole internship in Arlington. If that is a true offer, I say TAKE THAT BALL AND RUN WITH IT!!!! (caps meant as screaming). Medical Center of Arlington was not a bad place and certainly not any worse than any other hosptial in any other city. You did not mention what type floor or unit it is, but if you don't take it email me...I will. I liked Arlington. People were nice, pleasant. Tons of shopping. Weather great.

let me guess... I MICCU there is a reason why they are having a hard time keeping nurses.

:smokin::yeah::coollook:I SAY CHECK IT OUT 1ST. PAY IS NOT BAD AND IF ITS 5:1 THAT IS DECENT. THE WEST IS USUALLY BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS THEN SAY SOUTHEAST EX FLA WHICH SUCKS ON THE PT-NURSE RATIO'S. I'M TRAVELER BUT NEVER HIT TEXAS.. ARIZONA IS VERY GOOD. TUCSON IS A+ PAY WAS GOOD AND RATIO VERY GOOD. SO HOPEFULLY TEXAS WILL BE ALSO, GOOD LUCK YOU NEVER KNOW TILL YOU TRY AND YOU CAN ALWAYS LEAVE. YOU CAN HANDLE THINGS FOR 3 MONTHS BUT NOT FOR 1-2 YRS...REMEMBER THAT.. GOOD LUCK.. MAYBE TRY TRAVELING GET A FEEL FOR DIFFERENT PLACES????
