Job hunting is not so fun. How's everybody doing? :)
I know this has nothing to do with me, but I wanted to pop in to wish you all luck with your job search. It is amazing to me the number of May 2009 grads that don't have jobs. It also amazes me when I hear students graduating this May tell me no hospitals are coming to their schools to recruit. I graduated in May 2008 and the last semester we were bombarded with hospitals at least once a week! At my hospital, nearly everyone new hired tells me they were a May 2009 graduate. I will say "So you worked somewhere before coming here?" and they tell me how this is the first job they were able to get. It blows my mind. I just cannot imagine. I am wishing all of you the best. Hang in there!! It will happen...none of you came this far to not go all the way! :)Hopefully I didn't offend anyone with my butting in. I just couldn't pass by without saying something!
yup, May 2009 graduates got hit bad. I just got hired this month and im a May 2009 graduate
Oh no prinsessa... Its so hard out here. I cried all weekend because I'm lost and exhausted. There are no jobs for me to apply to! Everyone wants experience. I still haven't heard from the job that I interviewed for last week. I called the nurse recruiter yesterday and she said that she hadn't recieved any paperwork from the NM that interviewed me. They are still in the process. I don't know how to take this. I'm praying that I'm still in the running.
It's going, but it's depressing, frustrating, and sooo slow! I've been at it since before graduation in May '09.
I got one ray of hope today, though. I've been volunteering with Child Life at an academic hospital in my area since October '09 and just got a call from the supervisor of the PICU who said he received a glowing review of my volunteering work from one of the Child Life Specialists. I'm going in tomorrow for an informal interview for a position that just opened up on his unit. In the words of the Broadway musical 'A Chorus Line,' "God, I hope I get it!"
I'm Dec '09, so I haven't been searching as long as some of you have. Still, over 100 applications and not a single interview. BSN, 3.6, great letters of rec. I just keep plugging away with the aps. Good thing my husband has a good job. He just survived a round of lay offs at his work. If he hadn't survived, we wouldn't be able to feed our 2 year old, since I am unable to find a job anywhere. This sucks....I have two bachelor degrees, but am being told over and over again that I am not even worthy of an interview. I'm really depressed about the whole situation.
Hi evryone, its really hard to get into hospitals without experience....LTC homes experience doesn't matter...one recruiter said to me that sometimes its right time to apply and u get hired,so keep on applying..i got my license in sept.09 but still looking for job in hospitals...its really frustrating and killing me now...if someone can give tips to find job from their experience, thanks in advance for them...so gud luck to all.

really? I have also talked to a several recruiters and they told me LTC experice would be a plus. (better than nothing). that's why I have started looking into them.
I totally understand your frustration though.
Even if you run across a hospital recruiter that dismisses LTC experience, it is better than nothing. I had an employer hire me that was very impressed with my LTC experience in the subacute area. They told me that my subacute experience was equivalent to any acute care experience I could have recieved in a hospital. I thought that person had an enlightened perspective on matters, obviously from experience. And do not forgo the paycheck aspect of working in LTC while you continue to seek a hospital position.

It's good to hear!
How many months/years of experience do you have till your current job, if you don't mind me asking :)
I believe you saw my other post, I am getting excited/nervous about the LTC job!
