HII was wondering if anyone had a job as a GN then failed the test then was demoted to an aide? That is what most hospitals around here do.
That's tipically the case everywhere because you don't have a license and then it would be illegal.
A co-worker failed it and had to work as an aide until he passed the test
This is what normally happens, and all that can be done. With not passing, there is no way to continue to work in the role of the nurse as the GN status fails to exist once you actually test and get your results.
Best of luck to you. You are definitely not the only one that this has happened to.
Pretty much par for the course around here. If working as a GN/GPN and then take the test and not pass, they can not legally keep you working as a GN/GPN.
I know of a couple of people who were working as grad nurses who didn't pass their NCLEX. A few were "demoted" and worked as PCT/PCA's, CNA's or whatever. One was let go totally as they didn't have a position that she could fill at that time.
I'm kind of glad I rescheduled my test date from after I started a GPN job to before starting. I'd hate to go through orientation, working etc, only to then have to be let go or demoted until I tried the test again and passed.
Actually one should no longer be permitted to work as a nurse intern, they lost that status when they did not pass the boards. They should not be doing anything in that role, including assessments.
Could get them into trouble for that. They no longer have student status, so the intern part is not valid at all. And is legally not an option for one to be doing.

It may not be "legal" but I saw it happen all the time at one of the city's top hospitals. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I know where I'll be working, that if I fail my boards, I'll be demoted to a PCT, no Nurse Intern status at this particular hospital.
I failed and I would have been able to work as a nurse tech. However, I do not have a CNA license which was required. My nurse manager wanted me to take a personal leave of absence which I did. She said she didn't want me to quit. It's still devastating to fail even though I know I have a job waiting for me if I pass the second time which I damn well better! :)
Good luck!!

Wow, you made it through nursing school clinicals, two years of clinicals, and that doesn't count for anything to them? That's crazy. In my state, hospitals aren't even required for their ancillary staff to be certified. Only nursing home aides have to be certified.

I'm really sorry you failed, but it's great that your manager likes you and wants to keep you.

In some States (mine does this) if you went through a certain point of nursing school and passed (which you did since you sat for the Boards) you can "challange" the CNA classes and the test.
In Connecticut you have to had gone through nursing school that included the parts that taught the basic CNA skills. Which for most of use would be Fundementals of Nursing I.
Maybe you could see if your State also does this, then you can have your CNA and work as a Nurse Tech until you pass the NCLEX. Just a thought.
