Hello all!
I am so glad I was directed to this discussion forum. I believe it is a great place to share and learn. I am extremely interested in Jefferson's FACT program. I plan to apply for May 2012. I just wanted to reach out to anyone with similar interest and your thoughts on the process. I would like to know who else plans to apply for May 2012 and if your pre-req's have been completed.
Just to share a little about myself, I am completing my BS in Public Health at an online University (3 weeks left!) and have all the pre-req's completed. I am just excited about this next journey.
I also love how Jefferson FACT students automatically are accepted into the MSN program. My goal is to become a Women's Health NP, and Jefferson seems to be the way to go.
I would also love to hear from current students as well.
Thanks for the date mitch. Starting on a Wed. that is interesting. Do any of you have a friend who is currently in the program? I would like to ask a few questions about costs of books and such; would be great to be able to buy used, because directly from the Jeff bookstore they are super expensive. Also, do you guys know if we are required to have a smart phone or other kind of device-software? As you can see I'm in full planning mode. Night, night and good luck to all of you who are waiting for interviews! Miren
I'm in the program right now. Our class is piloting the iPad 2. We use e-books so everything is on the iPad. People complained so we had the option of getting an e-book only package or the e-book and print package for the second half of the program. I'd recommend a smartphone or an iTouch so you can put some nursing related apps on it.
Personally, I never brought my iPad with me to any of my rotations except OB. For books it depends, I wished I never bought the books because I hardly read them. At most, I used them as a reference. I just finished pediatrics and I didn't even look at the book. Too bad I can't sell it back because it's an e-book. Jefferson sells the books as a package so you can't tell what books are in it. You can try and contact the bookstore and see if they'd tell you what the contents of the package are.
Sato17, thanks a lot for the info. Do you remember how much was the book bundle?, also, did Jeff offer a discount for the iPads? How much did you spend on software or apps for your iPad/iTouch? Also, what do you think you would have liked to know before you started that you didn't know then and you do now?
Any advice is welcome, in terms of ways of doing things, things to buy/not buy, unexpected costs, or what ever you consider important for us to know.
I really appreciate your feedback!
For the second half the ebook only bundle was around $220 and the ebook and print version was around $440. I don't remember how much the bundle was for the first half. I want to say $600-700. These bundles do not include the books for the grad classes. I never bought the book for the grad classes we have taken so far. I found it unnecessary, but I know people bought them and used the books. We did get a discount for the iPad. I just used free apps (medscape, micromedex, skyscape, epocrates, etc.) except for nursing central which was like $150, which I bought through the school bookstore.Just go with the flow. It can be a little disorganized so don't let that get to you.
Everyone has different study habits. I know people in my class read the book. I've never read them for class. It depends on the person.
Get a NCLEX-RN review book like Saunders and/or Mosby. I tend to go over the chapters in the NCLEX-RN review book that were covered in lecture. It helps me reinforce the stuff we learn and it helps also to review for the NCLEX-RN by answering NCLEX questions.
Get that background check stuff done ASAP. Some of my classmates had problems with their clearances coming through especially the FBI fingerprint thing.
thanks for the info Sato! i guess i'll hold off getting a new ipad for now. does anyone have an idea or estimate on how much car insurance costs for the city? i'm toying with the idea of bringing my car. i keep hearing that it is very expensive but can't seem to find any rates without contacting insurance companies for estimates.
hey everyone,
I was just wondering if there are any of you who are still waiting to hear back. All my application materials were submitted by early November. Would it hurt to call Niki Kelly and ask her the status of my application? I'm getting more anxious as the days go by. Does anyone have an idea about how many spots are left? For those of you who were accepted, how soon after the interview did you get a decision? Also, would you mind sharing your stats (pre-req GPA, undergrad GPA etc)? Sorry for all the questions, but it would definitely be helpful, thanks!
@ lmnovak3
i called niki kelley first thing in the morning because i had sent nursingcas an updated transcript including my fall classes. she mentioned that they try to wait for all or most of the pre-req grades to come in before deciding. she said she just started the second review and that there are plenty of seats left so i shouldn't worry. but she did say that she has up until march 1 to give a decision to second round applicants and that i should be hearing back from her within the next few weeks. so her response was kind of vague and not too reassuring. best of luck to you also, i really hope we both get in!!
