Jefferson FACT 2012

Published

Hello all!

I am so glad I was directed to this discussion forum. I believe it is a great place to share and learn. I am extremely interested in Jefferson's FACT program. I plan to apply for May 2012. I just wanted to reach out to anyone with similar interest and your thoughts on the process. I would like to know who else plans to apply for May 2012 and if your pre-req's have been completed.

Just to share a little about myself, I am completing my BS in Public Health at an online University (3 weeks left!) and have all the pre-req's completed. I am just excited about this next journey.

I also love how Jefferson FACT students automatically are accepted into the MSN program. My goal is to become a Women's Health NP, and Jefferson seems to be the way to go.

I would also love to hear from current students as well.

hi everyone, i 'got in' this week. for those who've already been accepted- can anyone tell me how much time does it take to complete all clearances. i'm planning to visit outside country for abt a month. do u think i should do it before my trip? any insight would be highly appreciated. thanks all!!

Congrats Anie! I would suggest that you handler that before you go. I think its about an 8 week process. But it would be nice to just get it out if the way now if you can.

thanx nishtari! have u ordered the package 1 yet or not. does it has any forms regarding PA child abuse clearance and any fingerprinting cards. i'm confused when to order it since the instructions say that once u receive the required forms, the process should be completed in 3 days. i don't know that if i order it today whether i'll be able to get my fingerprints done in the given timeframe.

Well when I ordered mine, the drug test info came the following day. The fingerprint packet came 3 business days later.About an hour after I paid, I got an email with attachments for the child abuse clearance that you fill out and mail off with the money order. I'm not sure when you will be leaving, but everything came pretty quickly for me.

@nishtari, r u done with the drug test and fingerprinting? well, i'm planning to leave around 27th or so. do u think it'll b over by then.

I haven't done the fingerprinting yet. Hopefully I will get that done tomorrow. Honestly, I think that may be pushing it since you have to wait for the fingerprinting packet in the mail.

thanks a lot for d info nishtari!!

Sure thing anie

I would just like to share my frustration with you guys. I am annoyed with the idea of paying for fingerprinting. I thought thats what I did when I paid the $95. The few places I called told me it is $35! Ok that is all.

i was told its $15 at your local police station, i'm not sure though.

I'm currently in the program and saw a few comments by Sato (not sure who that is in my class, though) and thought I'd offer another perspective, since we all study and learn differently. I actually do the readings, since looking at a bunch of phrases on powerpoints doesn't do much to help me retain info. However, one of my classmates had the the brilliant idea of purchasing books that were one edition old. For example, if they're saying to use the 8th edition (the latest version), buy a new or very good copy of the 7th edition, since it's pretty much new, but MUCH cheaper. I hate e-books and prefer being able to page through a textbook easily versus using a very poorly engineered "search" option on the e-books. Again, you can sell your hard copy once you're finished if you find you won't need it, but you won't be out a lot of cash if you purchase an older edition in the first place.

Other than that, this program is A LOT of work. I can't wait for graduation! The program's fine, but we all have our complaints about it. No program is perfect. I don't regret my choice in coming here, but I will say it's not the program I thought it would be. (A number of my friends have noted that their previous undergraduate programs were much stronger academically, and I would agree.) That said, it's fine, just not worth $40k in my opinion. The goal is just to learn as much as possible and get through.

Good luck to you all!

One more thing, I did a tremendous amount of research on these boards before beginning this program and no amount of what I read on here prepared me for the program. The idea is to go in knowing that you have turned your life over for one year and just go with it. Realize that you can't do all the fun things you want because you won't have time. You will most likely spend many, many weekends in clinical, but pretty much all of us agree that weekend clinicals are ideal because your friends (who most likely won't understand how insanely busy you are anyway) will understand that you can't hang out because you're doing 2 12 hours shifts, versus if you just say, "I have to study, so I can't go out." Plus, it's easy to blow off studying, but then you pay for it later. There is just too much content to cover to not study. For example, we had 3 exams yesterday, and one classmate calculated we had 1200 slides to review. Another student compiled and shared her 150 page, densely packed study guide. So when we say there's a lot of content, we mean there's an insane amount of content. Not to scare you, but just to give you an idea of what to expect.

Anyway, I'm not on here much because 1) I don't have time, and 2) I'm so sick of thinking about this program morning, night and noon that I just can't spend additional time on here. So just relax and enjoy your time now and be flexible once the program starts for you.
