Jealous Nurses!!!!!!!!!!!

Published

Hey everyone

First, Im not in nursing just for the money. I really love helping people. Well I can't be in it just for the money because from what I've read and been hearing, they don't make that much money. That's probably a good thing because then we will have people trying to be a nurse that really don't care about the patients.

I've been hearing a lot of people that work in the healthcare settings say that nurses hate all the physical therapists, speech therapits, pa, occupational therapists and so on. They say the nurses are jealous and mad because they make less money than the above proffesions I just named and they do much more work than they do.

My cousin is a speech therapist and she works at a nursing home. She said that the nurses up there hate her. She's 24 with a masters and the older nurses really hate her. One of the pts up there told her the nurses were mad because she just starting working and makes way more than them who has been there over 30 years.

Many people have been telling me to go to school for something else because nurses don't make much money. I tell them that I really want to be a nurse. I don't care how much they make. I don't think anyone could change my mind. I respect nurses to the fullest and always would.

So is it true that nurses are a little jealous of the PA, PT, OT,etc?

When it all boils down, nurses get the most respect. I love nursing and no one is going to change that!!!!!!!!

Hey guys

I meant that when they are on the JOB, the pt, ot, etc do less work than the nurses but get paid more. I just wanted to make it plain and clear about what I was saying. Sorry if I confused many of you.:wink2:

At our facility, the PT's, OT's and the like don't make much more than the RNs'. It is something like $1-2/hr more which I guess is a lot when added up over a year but not extreme.

Are you maybe thinking of the wage difference between LPN's and therapists?

I don't think the jealousy issue you described is everywhere. At my hospital, the disciplines work as a team, for the most part.

None of the RN programs that I'm aware of can be completed in 2 years. They're just classified as a two-year degree. :wink2:

Really? The community colleges around here award a two-year degree, RN program that qualifies you for sitting for state boards == RN license. Same with the hospital diploma programs. Yes, it is a two-year degree (Associate's) but it is an RN program.

No, I am not jealous. The RN's at our facility do not make less than PT/OT. And, if they did make more I still wouldn't be jealous because I didn't want to be any of those listed occupations.

not to toot my own horn...but i have some paychecks that would make a doctor jealous. i think it is very childish to worry about what other people make. and to clarify something.. if nursing did not pay what it did, the nursing shortage would be even worse. overall nursing pays decent, of course there are some states that pay pretty low but in general you can pay your bills and then some as a new grad.

I don't understand the jealousy. If you are unhappy in your position do something about it.

I think that more than 40 percent of RNs only possess an ADN.

One opinion is that people that have worked in a profession for a long time deserve to be paid more. Don't most people want to be paid more? Aren't most of us susceptible to jealous of others that have more? ;)

It's not a nursing problem, it's human problem. There's always someone that we can be jealous of...

I wish I could find it again....I read an article that said 70% of licensed RNs have an ADN.:twocents:

I don't know one single nurse that has ever voiced any jealousy over PT's, or OT's. We all go into it pretty much knowing what our pay is going to be. I wouldn't want to do their job even for more money. I'm not cut out to be a PT or OT. Why be jealous?

Why is an above poster saying "only posessing an ADN"? It's a ADN and it's something to be very proud of accompolishing!

ok, my head must either be in the clouds or in the sand...again.

but i truly do not care what anyone else makes.

never gave it a thought.

i have to tell you, these types of questions always throw me off.:chuckle

AGREED!! I think people who are concerned about this stuff have way too much time on their hands. I like nursing and the variety it offers. I would hate to be locked into one area like RT, OT, speech therapy, etc. Don't want to be an x-ray tech, lab tech or doctor. I like what I do and I think I am fairly compensated for it. Yes, I would not turn down extra money, but I am not jealous of anyone else. If I wanted to do their jobs, I would go back to school and do it....but I am simply NOT interested.

I don't know about being jealous re. money. With an MA in occupational therapy, I made less than entry level nurses. There were many factors that led me to leave OT as a career, but money NEVER was a "regret". Per my hospital's union contract, therapists make less than nurses in specialty areas.

I do not find this to be so but then again I do not give it that much attention. I have never been one to look over my shoulder at the other guy and tend to think poorly of those that behave this way. If I wanted to be in another profession I would work towards that. I would rather enjoy what I am doing than perform in a job or profession that I hate just b/c of more cash. I once told a jealous LVN who turned out to be a buddy, and more than once , "If you want to be an RN get off my back,go back to school and then sit for the boards like I did and until you do that I do not want to hear all your crap about how we really do the same job". Guess what he eventually did and guess who his preceptor was.....Yep little ol me!!!! He came to me 2 weeks into orientation begging for help on how to juggle all the things he needed to do. Of course I helped him as he learned the hard way that things are not always as they seem. My friend and buddy some 15 years later ended up dying from AIDS.:sniff:

no jealousy here about other health care staff. The only professions I could see myself being jealous of is maybe Movie stars, models, musicians or athletes.
