January OBLC Army Nurse Corps

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here is supposed to attend OBLC this upcoming January (2009). Not 100% at this point whether I will be or not, but figured it wouldn't hurt to start trying to make some contacts. My commissioning package was supposed to meet the board in August but I guess there were some fixes that needed to be made so I was placed on the back burner. Was told that my package is supposed to be before the board today though and should hear back by next week (pretty exited right now). My wife is currently active duty AF Nurse Corps, but is in the final stage of securing an interservice transfer to the Army Nurse Corps and we both hope to attend the January OBLC class.

Hope to hear from some of our future classmates soon.

Great big congrats MOM!!!

That is great news!! I'm still dragging my feet a bit with getting paper work but you are a great incentive!!!!!! Can't remember are you active or reserves? Best of luck to you girl and please keep in touch!!

I am going reserves. I've been in contact with with my ammedd recruiter (I think I been driving him crazy)who believes I should have no problem getting commissioned as a 1LT. I can't remember when I have been so excited about being a nurse or when it has paid off so well. And the thought of serving a totally different population than what I do now makes me squeal

Congrats Runninmom. We are happy for you.

Hey 2 soldiers

I've been lucky, my recruiter has really been on the ball with getting my packet done so that it can be ready for the November board. But just as he has been on the ball I have been really driven with getting the required info that he needs (as much as I hate driving around getting the transcripts and other documents)and just been feeling that sigh of relief when I've gotten the stuff to him. It's all been a learning process and I never knew that so much was required with going into the military and getting a commission. A new appreciation is felt here and feel that in the end it'll all pay off.

runninmom,

i know what you mean. Its like by the time you finish with the process and training you feel like you can do anything. This is the hardest entrance process I have ever had to go through! But I know its worth it I know some people have had to go through some of this and like whatever I will do something else!

forwaters,

OMG I would be sooo upset with what happend with your packet. I know that things work out for the best. The USAF have lost a very good potential nurse!

sala,

i am currently here at oblc. housed in bldg 1384. see you in the am.

I found out I'll be in the January class too unless something changes :). I'm excited but still nervous as my running is still my downfall, I just can't seem to condition myself enough to do a full 2 miles without stopping and feeling as if I'm going to pass out, lol!!!

Hey Deetonia and 66Hotel,

Both my wife and I will be there in January... hope to see you there. My wife is on this board as airforcecapt.

Are both of you going active duty? If so, what posts did you ask for?

Have you tried a walk-run program Deetonia? I wouldn't worry so much about "2 miles" at this point, just try to increase how long you can run. Try getting yourself to a point where you can run for a solid 30 minutes. Run as long as you can, then walk until you reach 30 minutes. Then add an extra minute of run time each week and before you know it you should be running for the entire 30 minutes and exceeding the two mile mark. Don't forget to devote one of your running days each week to sprinting though, this will help increase your speed.

Hey runnin Mom'

I am so happy for you!!! I have taken the serious side now of getting paper work together. You're right about it being time consuming. You will never guess what I had the guts to do! I drove down to GA to see my oldest son since he had a few days leave over Columbus Day and after dropping him off at base I went into Surgical ICU and just asked to talk to some of the nurses and explained my situation. They were so nice to me and answered a lot of questions. The only problem is that the more you learn, you realize how much you need to learn.

I am so very excited for you!!! Can't say it enough!!! YEAH !!!

You knock em down girl!!! P.S. How long have you been a nurse??

J.C.
