January OBLC Army Nurse Corps

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here is supposed to attend OBLC this upcoming January (2009). Not 100% at this point whether I will be or not, but figured it wouldn't hurt to start trying to make some contacts. My commissioning package was supposed to meet the board in August but I guess there were some fixes that needed to be made so I was placed on the back burner. Was told that my package is supposed to be before the board today though and should hear back by next week (pretty exited right now). My wife is currently active duty AF Nurse Corps, but is in the final stage of securing an interservice transfer to the Army Nurse Corps and we both hope to attend the January OBLC class.

Hope to hear from some of our future classmates soon.

If you are a FNP student, do NOT join the Army until you finish your program. I am a FNP and just began working in MAY 08. I would not want to work in any other setting. As far as OBC is concerned (in my opinion) it is painfully slow and not a whole lot of benefit; bring a big bag of patience. Be sure you bring your car here, it stinks without it.

Hello Runninmomof7,

Please , please make sure you get anything the army is offering you down in writing!! I had problems with my recruiter not being up to date on a lot of changes and if it wasn't for all of you wonderful people I would still be in the dark about alot of issues.

Hi 2

I have not heard yet, hopefully packet made it to the board for this month:banghead:. This process is worse than giving birth without an epidural. Are you going in January? Does anyone know if the board meets in November? I was wondering if it would be a short month with the holidays.

Thanks

i don't know about the army board but the navy board is meeting for november. I just talked to my recruiter this morning and we are shooting for next month. Keep your foot to the pedal until you get to the finish line. :banghead:

Hi mom,

No, I'm not going in january, still trying to get all paper work done. Anyway, youngest son just finished basic and going active after he grads high school, Don't want to miss anything in his senior year...Homecoming, prom etc. Would feel guilty since I was there for older two. I'll keep my fingers crossed and you in my prayers!

Hi everyone

Update: Had my physical yesterday. had to do some running around yesterday to get some documents as well, as I was going to do a chapter 13 back in 2006 (bankruptcy) but didn't go through with it. (financial issues are not the end of the world with the military). Anyway, Things are going well, I faxed a bunch of stuff to the recruiter, my skills checklist and and the document are in his hands. Hopefully my packet will be complete for the next board. So this process will be over soon and I will know the outcome.:D Thanks to all for your support

everytime I think everything is just about done I have more paperwork to submit for my packet. I spoke with the processor and she gave me a few small things but things I have to hunt down for my packet. I'm so ready to get this part over with !!!!

I know what you mean Sassy, I literally had times when I would specifically ask if everything was done to which I was told... yes. Then 30 minutes later I would receive a call to let me know otherwise.

forwaters, just wondering why your wife decided to jump ship and leave the AF for the Army?

Long story Esh,

We have loved the Air Force, disappointment had nothing to do with our choice. I grew up an Air Force brat and had just finished my own enlistment when my wife and I met. Fast forward a few years and my wife decided to join the Air Force Nurse Corps. The plan was for me to go back to school, get my BSN and join her back in the Air Force. I applied for the Air Force Nurse Corps last year when I was 1 year from graduating. For some reason I was not selected. Everyone was floored... my recruiter, the Colonel who conducted my interview (acquittance of ours); pretty much everyone involved. We were never given a reason for my non-selection. About 6 months ago, believing I was an Air Force non-select, my wife and I revisited our plan and decided I would apply for the Army Nurse Corps and if I were selected she would transfer services (dual military is hard enough, but dual military in separate services...). About the time I found out I had been selected for the Army Nurse Corps it finally surfaced that the Air Force had never even reviewed my package last year. Apparently there were two applicants last November (myself being one of them) who would not have been able to attend COT until this October. October would have been within the calendar year, but outside of the fiscal year. So the review board apparently chose not to review our packages and never notified anyone of that decision. It was basically bad communication all the way around which resulted in not only the Air Force missing out on a very motivated new nurse, but also losing a very experienced career military nurse. As you can tell, it was a bumpy process for us. We are both happy with how things have worked out though and are looking forward to the Army Nurse Corps.
