Hi

Just a few drugs to remember

why do you give:

Leucovorin to a patient on Methotrexate? high concentrations of MTX damage normal cells...to save normal cells-- leucovorin is given known as leucovorin rescue.

lithium to pt with SIADH?Inhibits the effects of ADH on the renal tubule and can correct hyponatremia, .

Usually not indicated for use in acute SIADH because it takes 48 h to produce any physiologic effects.

BCG to a pt with Ca Bladder?I Bladder cancers are often treated by immunotherapy, in which a medication causes your own immune system to attack and kill the tumor cells. Immunotherapy for bladder cancer is usually performed using Bacille Calmette-Guerin (commonly known as BCG), which is a solution of genetically changed tuberculosis bacteria. Because they were genetically modified, these bacteria are not able to produce infection. BCG is administered through a Foley catheter directly into the bladder. Since BCG is a biological agent, special precautions must be taken during its handling and administration.

Mesnex to a pt on Ifex?

Mesnex is an uroprotectant. It works by protecting the bladder wall from the harmful effects of chemotherapy- Mesnex may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Mesnex . Using Mesnex alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.

- Tell your doctor if your urine turns a pink or red color or if you vomit within 2 hours of taking the oral form of Mesnex .

Actonel to a pt on Arimidex?Arimidex is a anti estrogen and it causes bone loss therefore Actonel is given

Pegaspargase in stead of Asparaginase in pts with ALL(acute lymphoblastic leukaemia Pegaspargase is used as part of induction regimen for the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in children who developed an allergy to asparaginase-

Zinecard to a pt on Doxorubicin?Doxorubicin can cause cardiomyopathy-zinecard given to reduce cardiomyopathy.

streptokinase through the chest tube? sometimes the tubes can be blocked by a fibrin clot .. they give streptokinase to dissolve that.

Hi Igmirnor,

what's the answer?

Hello co-January 08 test-takers!

my exam will be tomorrow 8AM, I'm so anxious right now, don't know what will I do? do the laundry? clean the house? do ironing?

Last night, I wasn't able to sleep well, woke up too early this morning 3AM, I want to grab my book and notes but ah ah no. I still have the feeling of inadequacy after 2 and half months of studying. I was able to finished Suzanne's 1st tip (I read the entire Saunder's book cover to cover), did some questions in Saunder's CD and finished Kaplan Strategies book and CD 2008 edition. Then, listened to Feuer's lectures as my final review.

I am hoping and praying for a success this time.

Dear Lord,

Please grant us the wisdom, the knowledge, the courage & determination as we sit down in front of the computer to take our nclex. Guide us to select for the best answer, the best thing that we could for this test. Then in soon time we would be apply in our chosen career. We will be able to show to the board that we are proficient, prudent and competent nurses by giving the best care we could give (guided by our knowledge and guided by YOU, oh dear Lord).

AMEN.
