Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.
We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?
Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.
Does anyone have any other stories that they can share about central or south campus? I am still so undecided about which campus to go to. South is about 10 mins away from my house and central is about 20-30 mins away. I just don't know what the best choice would be. I'm stuck.
If you're gonna wait for other stories from Central then you'll be waiting awhile. Everyone that I know in my class is busy studying for out last exam on Monday and South students may or may not be in the mood to come here. Today was their last exam and not many people passed. if you're closer to South then it's up to you if you want to go there or if you want Central but so far, Central students are busy trying to finish up with GIGU. :)

You go to central right? Is there anything you can tell me about that program? Dislikes? Likes?

I think it's a matter of opinion to be honest. I heard a lot of bad stories about north and central the most. Not about south. A lot of the people in my lpn class failed from north and central. The stories are unbelievable.
Then some people say "don't believe them. It's not true. As long as you do your work and stay away from the drama you'll be ok"
I honestly think there's bad things that go on at ALL campuses. Can't avoid it.

The program is rigorous. It's not easy. I'm in the LPN-RN transition so it's a little different. For generics you'll have Process 1 and 2 with clinical. During process 1 you'll have your basic skills in nursing, assessments, emptying foley bags, making beds, vitals, etc. then return demo. Practice your skills as much as possible. You will have a math test every "mini-mester". It's 10 questions and you can only get 1 wrong. If you fail the first one there is a retake. If you fail that one then you have to retrack. If you pass then you go on to clinicals in the hospital which are from 6:30am to 5:30 or 6pm once a week. Usually either Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Know your drugs and side effects. I enjoy clinicals mostly when administering meds and interacting with patients. It's a rewarding experience. What I dislike is that not every instructor knows this craft and can be viewed as a joke. My current (until next Wednesday ) clinical instructor is amazing! She's tough but the floor she has us on gives us more training than ever. There are things you never thought you'd experience. Exams are not that simple either. You have to study the book AND PowerPoints. Practice your skills. I cannot stress that enough.
