Floated nights on psych while working hospice inpatient. I was torn between home health and psych interviews coming up, reading this I remembered where I left my heart, or was it my mind... Psych it will be if they don't disqualify me for my own psychiatric quirks.

Quite therapeutic...even though the patient lashed out at you (for whatever reason) reinforcing limits by way of a direct command had a reassuring subconscious affect and allowed them to de-escalate instead of losing control...you really know your psych Davey!!

The "Informative Meeting" the smiley face bordered poster posted last December was about all nurses, LPNs and RNs, mandatorily going to 12 hour shifts starting in February. The administrator said there would be no exceptions, no split shifts, and all employees would regularly work on their so-called home units for the entire 12 hour shift. Administration was going to do away with incentives for working overtime or extra shifts. The administrator said, "This is a business" alluding to the fact that the medical center was for profit and the 12 hour shift transition was a cost saving maneuver.

Well, many employees have resigned, and basically, none of the criteria, aside for the transition to 12 hour shifts, has been followed. Some employees only come in for 8 hour shifts and will not do so without an incentive. Staffing is inadequate, random, and chaotic.

I took a portion of an email the administrator sent today, almost word for word, and made a new smiley face bordered poster:
