Ivy Tech Thread

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

it all depends on what kind of student you are. if you can remeber things (very specifically) after only reading over it once then you could maybe get away with working that much and still get decent grades. most of the people in my class work part time, and have children so they are very overwhelmed and just barely passing. see how it goes with fundamentals, which will be your first 5 weeks. after that is when things get extremely stressful. so if it's tough for you then, i would say working once you start med-surg/clinicals/pharm is gonna be too much. there's a lot more "homework/paperwork" that has to be done each night after clinical, and that will take up most of your night (my monday clinical paperwork took from 530p- 1230a). fundamentals was a piece of cake compared to what we have to do now. if working part time isn't necessary i would definitely say don't do it. they'll tell you that at registration too. they recommend for us not to work at all, or no more than 12-15 hrs per week. you'll figure out what's gonna work for you once you get started.

i will keep that in mind! i am going to probably let the work go or maybe even work once a week. not sure yet. i have a 2 year old, so i know i will be very busy. just so anxious to start! thanks for everything!:rcgtku::yelclap:

Does anyone know anything about Computers 101? also known as CIS or CINS 101. I'm thinking of taking it online and wondered what type of software you have to have on your computer.

I'm taking it online right now. It has been super easy. I have windows vista, not a problem even though the book is for XP. You can download the trial version of office 2007 which is good for 6 months (I think) I already had office 2007. so all I needed was the book.

The first week was on computer basics like what a hard drive etc..was. Then onto to Word, excel, and we are now on access. after we are done each section takes about 3 weeks, we will move onto powerpoint which I think is 1 or 2 weeks then the final ties all the elements together.

Hope that helps. If you are even half way computer literate it's a pretty simple A.

What is this program? Is this an associates for physical therapy at an Ivy Tech?

Just interested. I live in Frankfort..so it's close.

WishN--Our computer also runs on Vista and has MS Office 2007, but I don't see that we have Access. We have Word, PowerPoint, Excel though. What campus are you taking it out of?

csab, I'm not positive I'd have to look but I think you can download the individual programs in trial version for free that work for 6 months. It's the database program. I had never used it before this and didn't know I had it, so you may have it and just didn't pay any attention to it. I'm not sure what version you have, I have enterprise and it is included with it.

Good luck!

Ahhhh I got to shadow a nurse last night for 4 hours and it seriously was such a great experience. I was able to stand in on a c section and also watched about an hour or so of a lady partsl and it was so cool. Watching a c section was honestly the most interesting thing I have ever seen. For some reason I got lightheaded at the end...I wasn't grossed out- I think just the standing for so long got to me, not being able to really move around. But I was able to look at the placenta up close and watched the doctor do the incision in the stomach and uterus. So neat! Seeing how the nurse I was with interacted with her patients really sealed the deal for me, really made me feel like this is something I really look forward to doing :)

SO COOL!!!!!:nuke:

It would be beneficial to go in the summer, especially if the summer session is 8 weeks long. You lose too much information being off school for 3 months and forget what you learned in the Spring. It is mandatory for the PN student. It does depend on instructors also.

I know I would prefer to go over the summer rather than have that semester off. Just to get things done with quicker! That would change graduation from December 2011 to May 2011!
