I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?
I don't know what to do...
I was planning on applying for the Spring '10 semester...but I will have all pre reqs and most co reqs (all but 4) done by the end of spring next year. I am now wondering if I should apply for the fall semester (bc they will take spring grades right since letters don't go out until after grades are in?) instead. Any advice? It would be nice to be able to quit my job ahead of schedule but then again if it would be better to wait then I can do that too.

You could definitely apply next spring for a fall 09 start, but honestly, I would have hated to have to take 4 other classes on top of what I'm doing now. I am treading water right now to stay on top of everything, let alone taking other classes. I do know some students who are doing it though so ... it can be done! :typing

I think that's my main issue. If I started in the Fall...I would only have one summer semester free to get some done, but then again I know that the last 1 or 2 semesters are not full time in the program right? I also was planning on taking advanced physio next fall and I doubt I want to do that AND micro while in the program! After spring, I will have eng 211, micro, advanced physio and abnormal psych/lifespan development (haven't decided yet). So I am not sure if I am prepared to be doing those!

Whew that could be ugly...ENG 211 and lifespan would probably not be too bad to take together, especially online. I have taken both lifespan and abnormal (at IU Bloomington, though) and lifespan was MUCH easier than abnormal. Depending on the class, abnormal can be extremely difficult. Not difficult like ANP, but tough. I am going to take Micro this summer and Advanced Physio in the fall, hoping to start nursing program in Spring 2010. If you were going to start next fall, I guess you could take ANP 102 in the spring, then you would have this summer and summer 2010 free for the other classes you need...Maybe if you took Micro and ENG or lifespan together one summer and the next took Advanced and ENG or lifespan together it wouldn't be so bad? Does that make sense?
Well I was planning on a couple classes this summer too. I think. I have confused myself. I think I will stick with Spring 10 lol. Melissa have you decided on Ivy Tech or IUPUI yet? I will probably end up in your advanced physio class since i am probably taking mine next fall too
I hope we end up in that together, I was hoping we would have Micro together in the summer, too! We're stuck with each other and you know you love it! I will probably stick with Ivy Tech, but I do want to meet with an advisor at IUPUI just to be sure. I talked to someone but need to call and make an appointment. Who has the time! :)

If you are brave enough to do micro over the summer, then I will do it with you
Hi everyone! :DI'm Chris, and I'm new here. I'm not a nurse but am considering applying to Ivy Tech's nursing program at Indy. I've read a lot of older posts and I guess I'll post for the first time today. I live in Fishers and am currently taking one class online at Ivy Tech. I am in the same class as kgle!
Kgle, I was wondering if you were considering applying for Fall 09 instead of Spring '10. I knew you would have those 4 pre-reqs done by the end of next term. That is one thing about starting in fall instead of spring--you have only one summer to do any co-reqs classes instead of two summers in the spring program. It's not a question for me since I won't have the pre-reqs done any sooner than after summer 09, so it's not even an option for me to apply for Fall 09. Spring 10 is the soonest for me and that's only if I do ANP 2 next summer.
Melissa, I read on another thread where you were asking about the accelerated bachelor's thru IUPUI. I have a bachelor's too, but in interior design so I didn't take any math or science classes for that so I would have like 10 classes to take in addition to their nursing program! I looked on Indiana Wesleyan's website and I think they only require, in addition to the previous bachelor's, ANP 1&2, Chem, and Micro. But, it's up in Marion so quite a drive; and I'm not sure if their program is accredited.
So let me ask you guys. . . how do you know that nursing is really what you want to do? Have you had the desire your whole lives? I am still unsure. My mom is a nurse and I grew up thinking nursing was 'gross' and that I would NEVER be a nurse. It was only after experiencing the pregnancy and delivery of my first baby that I became very interested in pregnancy, labor, and delivery. So, my interests in being a nurse really only lie in the L&D field. I don't know if that is 'good enough', if I would be able to really do the whole nursing school thing. And I have been out of school for 16+ yrs, and out of the work force for 11 yrs as a SAHM, so I'm not terribly confident that I can hack it!
