I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?
I haven't read all the new posts, but wanted to reply to SpecialK.
My kids go to JGE so their schedule is easier to work with then the typical because they don't get off the bus until 4:30. I use before-care with the Y for my first grader because his bus doesn't come till almost 8 of a morning. He gets on the bus with his brothers at 6:45, I drop my daughter off at Head Start at 7:30. (Thank GOD for full-day Head Start!) and then drive to Lawrence.
Clinical days are my only issue and I have that worked out so far. Starting week 6, you will be in clinicals. Most are 6:45-3:30.
The instructors are sticklers about tardiness because it can be a major disruption. If you aren't in the room by the time class begins, the door is locked and you have to wait until the next break (usually an hour or so) before you can come inside.
We had one person show up like 5 minutes late for lab and they weren't allowed to participate at all, even after break.
There have been a few days I was cutting it close but I try to get there by 8:10 if I can just to be safe.
I stressed for a while with working out the schedules and have had the "talk" with my kids. They all know they're not allowed to get sick until Thursday evening and they have to be better by Sunday evenings. LOL
It really does have a way of all working out. Definitely have a back-up for your back-up if one of them should happen to get sick or whatever. You know how life happens. It's always on a test day!!
I could not imagine taking any science based class on-line. I learned so much from the open labs, especially, in ANP II. I also learn best when I am able to interact with other students.
I know of someone who was looking for an online Micro class. I'm taking Micro face to face now and it's hard enough to understand without having to basically teach yourself.
I've actually been doing better too since Med Surg started. I am being easier on myself now that I got that first B out of the way. Oh, and the 6 girls that didn't pass in my class aren't the only ones. The way our program is set up (not sure if it's state wide) is that RN and LPN are all together for semesters 1&2, so that's a lot more students than if it were just RN (they only accepted 18 RN this semester). Also, I think they're being extra strict because Gary just started the traditional RN program 2 years ago. Before they only had the transitional (LPN-RN, paramedic-RN), so they are trying to keep their NCLEX rate at 100% since it's a new program. In my Med Surg class we have 4 students that are on their second time in that class, and in Pharm we have 6 students retaking it (one of them is on his third time around). So yeah, it's kinda scary realizing that you could be one of them, going thrugh this craziness a 2nd time. Good luck with your clinicals as well, I'm sure you'll do great! What my instructor told us is "Don't worry, we're not gonna let you guys hurt anybody. We're the ones with the license to lose." HA!
Yeah, that makes sense. Our program is the same way with LPN's and RN's being in the same classes for 1st&2nd semester. The thing is, we are split into morning and afternoon so we don't know everyone. Oh well! There are quite a few people in the morning Med. Surg. class that are retaking the class. It is definitely scary but I just try to keep telling myself that I am not everyone else! I can do it. WOO!
thank you for all the info. now i can kinda get a picture of how it will be. if you get a chance can you post an example of how my schedule will be? do we get to pick or do they give us our schedules. how long do clinicals run into the evening? i have to have my daughter picked up by 6:30 pm so i am trying to see how this will be. you have been so helpful already:bowingpur. thank you. good luck in clinicals:yelclap:.
when we had our registration date she asked for volunteers for evenings, and only a few people wanted them. so, she drew our names from a hat and put us into 1 of 4 blocks.
fundamentals was 8/25-10/1 m&t 8am-1245pm and lab thur 8am-215pm
then pharm started 9/17 and thats w 9am-1245pm
clinicals (were supposed to start 10/1) are m&t 7am-3pm at st. marg. in hammond
med surg 10/1-12/20 is w 1pm-345pm and lab thurs 8am-145pm
so, you have a 50/50 shot at getting day classes. there is only 1 day fundamentals (i think) and 1 night. all the classes are the same on the 2 day and 2 night blocks, just the clinical is different, that's how they get 4 blocks. so if you can get days you'll be all set!

all i can do is pray i get days :plsebeg:. i am getting nervous about the 50/50 shot :sstrs:. nights definitely would not work for me ! thanks for all your help

Which campus are you on? I don't think that they do it that way at Lawrence. I hope not. I really don't want evening clinicals if I can get by with it.
I have a question. I have been taking all my pre-reqs online (Ivy Tech) and I want to take my ANP online but a girl in my COM class said not too. She said she can't even believe they offer it online because of how hard it is. Has anyone taken their ANP online and if so do you think it was too much and you should have went to campus? Thanks in advance!
Hi Hope,
I took ANP 101 and 102 online, and I liked it. I do well with online classes. I like being able to study when I feel the best. I like to read first thing in the morning when I am fresh and won't fall asleep. I like to learn at my own pace, where I can read and reread as needed. Sitting through a lecture is pretty boring for me. So, I didn't have any problem with the ANP classes, although I would say the labs are not as good since you only rush through them on one Saturday.
Since you have been doing your other classes online, you know what to expect. If you have the discipline to do well with those, you should do fine with ANP also. The Richmond ANP class has all open book tests, I don't believe the Terra Haute classes do. That can be important for an A, which is very important to get into the nursing program.
congratulations to all who have been accepted into the nursing program, that rocks. honestly, i thought i would have, but i haven't got a letter. i got accepted last semester in lawrence but declined for personal reasons. this time i had a higher score (212) and i am still waiting to hear yes or no.
all kinds of things go through you head when you are waiting. the most prevalent right now is; i droped it off in person and i have no record that i ever did that. i intended to get the application and send it certified to have a record. when i went to the office, they said to just fill it in and leave it, which i did. now i am fearfully imagining that they lost it and i'm out of luck. on the brighter side, maybe they are short handed and are going through the alphabet of something. two hundred and twelve ivy points should be enough, don't you think?
i didn't even get a rejection letter, so i'm in the dark. i am not going to lose any sleep over this, as i got plenty of other problems to lose sleep over, and i don't lose sleep over those either.
i still am thinking about doing some more corequsites in the spring and starting in the fall with nursing, but my paitence is gettin thin right now. at this point it is out of my control (no letter). which brings up another point. people ask me why i wear my hair:jester: the way i do; i just tell them that i have lost control of almost everything in my life, but i still have control of my hair! i even told my pastor that if i needed to step down from elder because of my hair i would do it, but do we really want to be too religious?
so now i check my mailbox daily, like a madman waiting to find a seven million dollar deal in it. sigh.
you are all sweet people on here, maybe you can console me with words of kindness.

why don't you try giving the campus a call. they might have some info to help you. maybe they have sent them out and yours was misplaced. who knows. but you have an excellent score, so i would not worry about that. i would just be concerned that my letter got lost because most campuses give you a certain amount of time to respond once you are accepted. so, just give them a call. you are not alone. i'm right here with you waiting for my letter. but i know it is not coming for at least 24 more days. good luck!

ilovemywife,
i had the exact same thought, i dropped mine off when the person who was supposed to take it, was out of the office. i had to leave it with the administrator to the respiratory program. i thought " oh, no what if they think i want to be in the respiratory progam!"
anyway, that did not happen and i eventually got my letter. it's funny, all the negative things that run though our head when we are in doubt. thankfully we do have the soothing words spoken by our lord to lean on and bring us through with encouragement!
it couldn't hurt to call.:thnkg:
Ilovemywife......you are in, you dont even need a letter. Dont worry, it will come. Im sure you were one of the top scores of the bunch=)
Anyways, does anyone know when clinicals start? Do they start immediately? As in, once we start classes? And what type of (health) tests do we need to have done beforehand?

I have not taking A and P online, but am of the opinion that it couldn't possibly prepare you like on campus. Even with being in class, asking constant questions of the professor and open labs, getting a good grade wasn't a breeze. I think if you are serious about nursing, you should take A & P on campus to get hands on learning....
(my 2 cents worth...lol)
